So I'm gonna be shipping my amp off in a week and I'm trying to find a box that'll fit my head.

Called the UPS store and FedEx and no one has a 30x10x12.

I bought one from UPS today and it is way too wide and the cardboard is so cheap that I'm nervous to send it off even double boxed.

Who/what do you guys use when shipping amps?

Uline has a great selection of boxes, but you have to buy in quantities of 10.

I have a box store near me that sells double-walled 28"x18"x18" boxes. I use those most often for amps in headshells less than 24" in length.

If the headshell is longer than 24", I have to bend the flaps on one side of the above box to make a closing and then tape another piece of cardboard on top of that end as well. The smaller box than goes into a larger box that measures 36" in length.

What a PITA.

I go to a place called Box Brothers. They make me one from a larger, double walled box that will accommodate 2" foam on all sides. Usually costs me $30 to pack.

The irony is that I threw away the box that I originally shipped the amp in last week.

Bought one at UPS and it's so damn flimsy. Called the FedEx store in town and they have one that may fit. They offered to let me bring the amp and size it up.

I just want a double walled box that accepts foam. I did buy some nice foam at the UPS store that I'll use for the bottom, sides and corners.

I either go to uhaul store that rents trucks as they have all packing materials for movers, or go to guitar center or one of the local music stores and look in back.

Well of course you did, this is how it always goes down. Same with guitars.

Call local GC and ask them to set one aside for you. They will.

GC is an hour and a half away and the U-Haul store in town doesn't sell boxes.

This is such a PITA.

Ditto on Uhaul store, when I am having trouble finding a box.

What's going on? Are you sending your amp back to Friedman?

Yeah. It's mod time on this end.

Not including the time it takes to find a box!

I'm gonna try the FedEx golf bag box and cut it down. It's 15x15x48. Maybe it'll work.

If not, I'm going to lowes and buying a shit ton of extra foam

It's better to overpack than to be sorry. Good luck with the shipment.

I stop by my local guitar shops on their shipping days. Calling ahead helps. Normally you can get free amp boxes for free this way.

I have also stopped by the warehouse of one of the local furniture shops. I explained what I needed and the guy found a double-walled chair box for me. Perfect for a full size head!

+1.
Yeah GC guys can get you any boxes for free, because they have to trash the boxes anyway.
