still a little concerned about the fact that brass was ejecting really close. Ed Brown says brass should eject to about 12 feet away. But mine is throwing 'em out within a few feet, if that. And that suggests an issue with the extractor, recoil spring, or maybe the ammo is not the right power.
That is strange, did it continue to do it when you switched ammo the 3rd time?
If so, it sounds like a weapon issue. My first guess would have been an ammo issue, but not on 3 different types of ammo
I had failure to extract issues on some cheap wolf ammo in my AR years ago, but was told right away not to run steel cased ammo through AR's. It has not happened since I switched to brass cased, and thats been thousands of rds ago ;)
Sorry man, I know that is very annoying on a brand new weapon
Dont let it piss in your corn flakes, you'll figure it out. Thats too fine a weapon to be having non-ammo related problems ;)

BTW, its a little strange the folks at the range would not let you run your own ammo... thats pure bullshit
I've never heard of that
Just sayin ;)

Yeah, most of the ranges around here make you purchase ammo there so they make some money. Even if you bring your own ammo that is the same as theirs. They gotta make money somehow I guess...

Anyway, I'm not getting failures to extract. It's just not ejecting the brass as far as it should. Otherwise, the gun shoots fine. I'll look into it. The American Eagle ejected a little farther than the Federal.

Standard 230 grains?

My Springfield started doing that with FMJs- just before the extractor choked on some brass. It always flung those suckers WAY out there before. To the point fellow range buddies HATED me! One time I filled up a guys hoodie 10-12 feet away.  He didn't like me very much..

Anyway, when it came to my defense rounds (Winchester Ranger-T +P) my springer just ATE those things and never choked, which kinda surprised me, actually- considering their robust shape. Probably because those things were kicking hard enough it didn't leave my 1911 much choice. but they don't glide like ball ammo, either. Love those rounds..

Yep, Federal 230 Gr. FMJ. American Eagle seemed to do a little better. I have a box of Winchester White Box I'll try next time if the range will let me use it. I'll check the extractor when I break the gun down next time.

Hit the range today. Everything went well. No failures. Brass was ejecting normally. I guess the ammo I used before (Federal and AE) just didn't get along with the gun. The WWB I shot today shot smoother, not as dirty, and ejected fine. I got a Tripp mag that also works really well. Everything's great!
