anyone know where i can get great deals on randall 4x12's or engl 4x12's?

any recommendations from use on any cabinets in general?

im debating going in that general area instead of finding used beat up marshalls, but to be honest i could care less either way.

speakers will be top/bottom mix of v30's and 75's each.

price range - ~400-$500 a piece maximum. unloaded is fine. ebay isnt turning out as good as i thought :scared:

so i did some research about ENGL cabinets because theres a 50/50 chance between a fender 5150III and an engl powerball.

i did some research on engl cabinets and found out they are 90% fiberboard?! only the baffles are made of siberian birch plywood?! i guess that is to keep it from rattling.

i was shocked when i read this - and these are going for $1,000+ a piece new?

so for cabinets im probably going to bargin shop for some local scott splawn cabinets and load them myself. 13 ply baltic birch construction is a little thicker than my 5150 cabinets 9 ply so i think the projection and quality will be about the same :)

The Mesa Trad./Stiletto 4x12 is a nicely built cabinet that you can find for ~$600 used. If you want an unloaded cabinet, maybe look into Mojo.

If you are going to run a custom selection of speakers why not find an empty cabinet?? and screw worrying about having a amp name brand on it..
As long as it is atleast 30" high 30" wide and atleast 14 inches deep made out of birch it should sound good especially for metal..

mojo cabinets? ill definately check into them.

im probably going to get two 4x12 splawn cabinets unloaded - preferablly used. the only downside is finding two cabinets like this that match.

as far as unloaded goes, i cant afford loaded cabinets right now. ill do this in steps as i get the money for it all. its hard to rebuild an entire rig all at once. but here is the ideas for speakers.. let me know opinions :)

top/bottom vintage 30's and T75's

x pattern vintage 60's and T75's.

havent decided yet. but so far splawn unloaded used cabinets seem the best bang for the buck for me.

I had one years ago .... it was a very good cab for the money. I would be surprised if you could find a better deal. I would also recommend 2x12's they are so much easier to move around. Just stack as many as you need.

i checked out avatar cabinets - they seem to scare me a bit. they have their cabinets made for them in mass quantities. kidna reminds me of the walmart tactic of buy in bulk sell cheap.

i couldnt find anymore info on who makes avatar cabinets or the exact methods of construction. my 5150 cabinets are fingerjointed and i know their baffles are birch as well

splawns are each hand made in a section of his shop. he tries them out to check for any issues in construction and also slightly brakes in speakers if you also order them loaded.

im checking up on mojo cabinets now ;)

I think Mojo makes the Avatar vintage cabs ?

interesting. sending mojo an email as we speak. ill put that out there and find out.

i checked out mojo cabinets and it seems they only do 4 piece tolex jobs. plus they charge extra for wheels and such - i think my best bet is used unloaded splawns. local, well made, and its something that i can depend on without worries.

any comments on the speakers with either of those amps? kinda wondering if that is the right way to go

It's a shame you aren't closer to Nashville as I have a Mesa Stiletto 4x12 cab loaded with V30's and 75's in an X-pattern I'd happily let you have for $450 and it's in pristine condition. No marks, mars, tears, etc.. clean and new looking. I'm just not using it any longer so it sits under a cover doing nothing.

Got a pic? I live in Columbia - this might be a nice match for my Heartbreaker head.

No, but I can take one tomorrow evening when I get home. However, I don't want to turn this thread into a spam thing, so pm me with an address I can send a pic to if you don't mind.

Finally said to hell with it and ordered me two new Mesa 4x12 Recto straight cabs and 4 loose G12T75's speakers. Will do some cab stuffing and also make them both X-pattern cabs with the V30's. They should be near the tone of the UberKab, as it is hands down my favorite, multi-purpose, go-to, cab.

hey steve thats awsome bro!!!!

congrats on the new purchases thats one hell an awsome cabinet setup

you've been setting up quite a rig. ive been catching little bits here and there from what you are grabbing. whatever nuclear bomb your making post clips after its finished   :D :D :D

i am also thinking about stuffing the back panels ofthe splawn cabinets. i know i will do all around the edges where the cabinet seals.

that reminds me, i need to look up that thread real quick and re-read what people were using to get a tighter low-end without killing off high notes.
