AIC need to come up with something new and refreshing instead of rehashing the same thing over and over again.

any suggestions? I like the idea of "death funk".

jeff beck is insanely creative and stylistically varied (no metal obviously however), it's sick...

the best underground suicide song, nobody would ever know, now now (dirty money funny honey)

that black dude singer is pretty good but nobody can replace layne. no way.

pretty ghetto riff. does AIC always use bogners, hence "that" tone?

ghetto?

jerry gets that tone no matter what he uses...

would you characterize his tone as quaint, delicious, scrumptious, captivating, beautiful or ghetto?

it's grunge, it's ghetto, it's a compliment. that's not classical/clean music...

To each their own on terms. Ghetto just doesn't click with me and is an overused word nowadays. I don't try and describe it, I just know who it is when I hear it...he's sort of a hard rock version of David Gilmour to me. Great songwriter and his lead work conveys a lot of emotion within his note choices.

AIC is the anti-wanker guitar band. And the metal chics dig it as well. There is something primal in it.

AIC any day for me. As much as I am amazed by Vai and other fretboard gymnasts. A great riffer is what and why I play. Like how simple is Check My Brain and Man in the Box compared to anything Petrucci does? But it connects with millions of people.

Rock on Jerry...

Could not have said it any better.

WTF. Srsly.

Wow...they're one of the only bands that are coming up with something fresh. I mean, it's their sound which they'll always have, but it's fresh and awesome to this day. The fact that Jerry can still pull riffs like this out of the guitar that make you feel something when the majority of rock and metal out there is so stale is a testament to the creativity and uniqueness of him and this band.

Thanks for this... Saw the EMI legal pull off YT, glad to listen to it. I like it. Great deep chuggin' raw riff. Sounds unmistakable ALICE IN CHAINS!!

What's his new rig look like? I had a Marsha with the JBE. I loved it. I bet he's got something new up his sleeve for sure.

Not sure - JC's tone sounds a bit more fresh on this track. I'm sure there are Bogners still in the mix for sure. I've also heard through the digi-grapevine that he tapped into the - yes - AF2 for this recent CD. Not sure if it was for actual guitar tones or just FX, I suppose time will tell. Wouldn't make a difference to me, he's got the play in his fingers...always sounds like AIC, always sounds like "Jerry"

I recently read an interview with the engineer. Here's the basic gist of his rig/tone:

Heavy Tones:
Fish + Mesa Stereo power amp (each side feeding its own 4x12)
Uberschall
Marsha
Laney Klipp
(He said the amp setup was identical to the last album, except for the addition of the Laney Klipp)

Each amp had its own 4x12, so 5 half-stacks were blended for his base tone. Some of the cabs had 2 mics and others just one. Typically 3 passes were done through the blend: 1 hard left, 1 hard right, and 1 straight up the middle. The left & right guitars was his Rampage w/a Motor City pickup, and the middle one was some flying V that belonged to the producer. Leads and "bendy" parts (his term haha) were two different Les Pauls.

Cleans & Semi-Dirty Tones:
Axe Fx II, AC30, or a blend of the two.

Must've been fun jamming through that beastly rig :m17:

Im finally going to see them next month in concert, cross that off my bucket list!
