Kinda slow and plodding for a lot of the record. I also agree that the vocals are too harmonized

what else could you expect from ALICE IN CHAINS?

they promoting it with a afternoon gig at the whisky-a-go-go.

so far it's awesome...it really captures the dark AIC vibe, that really seemed to be missing on the 3 legged dog disc ( I was not a fan of that at all)...It sounds amazing, and to me slow and plodding is what AIC is all about! It really does seem more Alice in Chains than Cantrells solo stuff...
The self-titled (dog) album was very dark. Songs like Brush Away, Frogs, God Am, and Over Now are some of the darkest they've ever done. It just has a different vibe. Sonically it is more raw and unpolished.

Can't wait to pick this up....love the singles and am a fan of Cantrell...this can't fail for me!

I am glad I can buy the CD today I have been listening to it on Youtube since it got leaked.

yeah, tripod was the darkest Alice album
but not raw at all
lot of layering and each song has an unique tone
Cantrell used over 30 guitars and several amps

I just meant raw as in the guitar tone wasn't as thick and the production doesn't sound as "polished" as earlier records. You're right there is a lot of layering on that one! Great album.

Great songs and production...I particularly like 'Lessons Learned', 'Private Hell' and 'Last of My Kind'...I think the production was a bit overdone on 'Looking in View' - sounds too compressed. I wish there was more Duvall on it, but as someone already said - it was probably a calculated transitioning move on their part.

I am totally digging the new Jerry Cantr...er..uhm..Alice In Chains record. My only beef is why he didn't let the guy sing more...Dave Friedman got a thanks from Jerry in the liner notes, very cool

Well, I finally got a chance to listen to it, and I only have one thing to say: Thank God that AIC are back!!! There has been as very large void in really good hard rock since they've been gone. It is nice to hear some good solid music in the airwaves again!

This is my only complaint as well. Let him be the lead vocalist. It seemed that on "Tripod" there was a shift of Jerry singing alot more of the main vocal lines - and this album continues that even moreso. I hope they give William the reigns a little more in the future. He's got great vocal chops that aren't really displayed much on this album.

Yep, I agree. I also dig the record and think its better than Jerry's previous solo records, too. But I've seen comes with the fall and jerry's solo tour with duvall singing the layne parts, etc. and he is a great singer, and think they coulda showed that a little more but its cool.

Very excited with this one.

Can't get Check My Brain out of my head. Trying to get my band to cover this!!

Black Gives Way to Blue, Your Decision, Last of My Kind, just great stuff.

I haven't picked it up yet, but I like what little I've heard of it. That said, Layne would kill on it.

I really like it. I was waiting to grab it off the shelf as soon as they put it out yesterday. Check My Brain is awesome...all good though... It's so nice for new music to be good! It's not often these days!
