Congrats Dan on your new Archon! Have you had it cranked up yet?

Yes sir !! But again this is my 3rd Archon. After playing it last night cranked with drummer.
It has to be my top 3 amp ever. It just killed. If you get a chance snag one.
Gotta fire up the katana later today. See what that's all about.

So would you say that the Archon sits between a VH4 ch3 and a Recto? I thought I read that somewhere..

Not sure about it being rectoish. I guess its more recto then Marshall. But for sure it sounds like a Diezel Vh4 to me.
Cranked it last nite and it was BLISS.

So think and rich in tone. LUSH??

Not sure how to describe it. Its such a great amp.

The combos come with a G12T-75 speaker stock, it doesn't work too good with the amp, when I changed mine out for a greenback it really started rockin. I can't speak for the 50 watt in particular, but I do know the early ones no matter what the wattage have an effects loop that can really make the amp sound not so good, you can foot switch it out. There is a factory mod kit that you can get from PRS to fix the loop issues.

That said I actually like the 25 watt Archon better than the 100 but I just play at home, so the wattage is more useable for me. I would think the 50 should be pretty good too!!!!

The archon 25 looks perfect for home players how is the tone low volumes?

How's it compare to an Uberschall?

Having never played a VH4 I can't compare it to one, but I have owned an Uberschall and a couple of different rectos. The Archon definitely has its own thing going on but it can be dialed in to sound close to an Uber, Recto, or even some 5150 flavor. To me it sounded like a blend between the three. My favorite way to run the amp was with the bright switch off and a boost in front. It is plenty tight without the boost, especially with the bright on, but depending on the guitar/pickups it can get fizzy on the top end with the bright engaged.

I see you have a mk v 25. Thatbis one of the many amps I had when I got the Archon. The Archon is no where near as versatile as the mk but imo it's much better at low volume. I got my Archon 25 on reverb for like $750 which is crazy cheap for such a killer amp

I sold it then got an ax8 and couldn't bond with so I just returned it. I'm waiting on my refund to buy an amp. The archon is on my list so is the kraken and the v30.
Also the famous katana looks interesting

Just available as a combo. Which is the only down side. I didn't have the 25, and 100 at the same time to do an a b comparison, but it was just a week apart. They sound the same to me. The 25 uses tungsol 5881 power tubes so it sounds like a big amp.

I freaking love the voicing of the Archon.
Just got in from goofing off with it again.
so damn tasty its nuts.

Running it thru full stack with just a graphic EQ in the loop.

Just crushing tone.

They sure are special amps. Massive sounding super fat but very clear at the same time. Plus a crazy good clean channel

I think the 50 has a half power switch. Maybe just the speaker in the 25 combo, but to me it didn't quite have the heft of the bigger brothers.
