So I recently had Dave Friedman complete a custom build for me that is identical to the one he recently did for Reza. Although it is his version of a Jose mod, it is SUPER aggressive and different from his other offerings. It sounds really awesome but certainly doesn't cover all of the bases. I'd like something with a great clean channel that would be a good compliment to the Friedman. Any suggestions? I was thinking that the Reeves Super 78 could be cool and also just read some great reviews of the Mesa TC series stuff. What do you guys think???

What else do you currently have in the stable (if anything)? And what's your budget?

Are you looking to run the two amps together?

That is my only amp at the moment. I wouldn't run the amps together and am really just looking for a different flavor than the modded Marshall thing. No budget really but I wouldn't be interested in anything stupidly expensive (i.e. Dumble).

Rectifier or IIC+ type amps are pretty different from a modded Marshall tone and have workable clean channels.

Mark, Recto or Uber, maybe a SLO if the prices aren't still stupid (I have not checked).

A cheap option could be a Ktre. I absolutely love mine, snagged it for $650.

EDIT:Ohhhh also VHT/FRYETTE.

EDIT: Orange could be a good route too

This.
JP 2C has a GREAT clean.

The Reeves Super 78 wasn’t really an amp with cleans from what I remember when I tried it. Honestly your Friedman is probably a lot better than that Reeves 78 or Mesa TC. I wasn’t too impressed with either of those amps

If you want something with good cleans that also does high gain, I’d agree with the others about the iic+ or JP2C. The Wizard’s also have very good cleans for a channel switching amp. My Hiwatt actually has maybe the best cleans I’ve ever heard and can get plenty heavy too, but needs serious volume for that and is just one channel, so not the most practical amp

Go for a PRS Archon.
Amp is unique and does it all perfectly.

Man, you guys rule! Really appreciate the suggestions. Although I’ve never owned a Mesa, it really looks like the JP2C might be the way to go. I’m also intrigued by the Hiwatt. Anyone else have any experience with them?

Ive heard SO MANY good things about the Archon and if I was trying to penny pinch, I’d be all in. I actually read somewhere that Lynch really loves his and uses it for lead stuff in the studio.

JP-2C is a killer amp! I just got a new one back in Dec and it is simply amazing. Love the size of it and features on it.

You can pick up a used archon fairly cheap. I love mine.
Think I got it for $1100 used.

I recently did a lot of research on some of these same amps and ended up locking in on the TC-100 over the JP2C. Both have midi, both have 3 channels. I kind of felt like the JP2C is more suited for the metal player while the TC is more rock and probably better at the low/mid gain stuff lending it to blues better too. I could be wrong but either way I do like the TC so far.

For the Hiwatt, just be prepared, because when you turn it up loud enough to get its magic, it’ll be louder than many 100 watt amps fully dimed

I wasn’t that impressed with Archon personally, but may as well try one if you can. I think a good older Mesa Rectifier would likely outdo do it from what I remember playing both

They are all the same in the end result and you will sell them LOL
