Hey Guys,

I'm new to this forum but I thought I might try and scope the internet for some opinions on amps. I'm looking to get a new amp, head and cab. I've been playing on the axe fx for the past 5 years or so and I'm really starting to miss good tube tone. I have a lot of different options in my head, but since none of my local guitar shops has anything of any worth I have to go through video after video on youtube, and all of it is really starting to mush together in my head. I was just wondering if anybody has any opinion on which route I should take.

Here are my potential amps: (any suggestions to others is greatly appreciated as well!)
Friedman Small Box
Friedman BE100
Mesa Jp-2c
Mesa LoneStar (used as pedal platform)
Suhr Pt-100
Mesa Boogie Mark V (maybe V25 for EL84 option)

I really love nice smooth buttery lead tones, which leads me more towards el34, or el84s but I also love the cleans of 6l6. It's such a dilemma. Bottom line is I love early 90s Petrucci tone, as well as mid to late 90s Shawn Lane, and Andy Timmons always sounds wonderful.

Any help or suggestions would be wonderful, I'm struggling to make up my mind and it has been killing me for weeks.

Thanks

Well, the title of your thread says it all; there are so many great options out there these days that it can be a bit overwhelming. You've got some good amps on your list above, but there is a whole slew of other great options to consider as well. If you can, try out a Bad Cat, specifically the Hot Cat. It has great cleans and an amazing overdrive channel as well. If you like your leads on the smoother side, this will meet that requirement as well.

You may end up like a lot of us here who have gone through a bunch of amps. It may take some time finding out what works best for you. Nothing wrong with that. Part of the fun is the chase/quest.

I'd go with a handwired friedman of a mesa any day if i had the choice. but, theres still the issue, of the metal...

Friedman JJ
Are they handwired? I thought PCB...same as Mesa..
See sunshine? Here was my post, the one that got you all riled up....unless you are posting as two people lol..
not so much, still don't know what your saying....a mesa is a PCB, Friedman seems to have something different, it's not a PCB or a turret board, so is it handwired? you say no or do you?

Man. You got real issues. Again, get back on your meds dude. Its just the internet.

And all of this over your insecurity over your amp? Like somehow its not as good because its not the PTP masterpiece you thought it was? Funny stuff. Go ahead and keep throwing insults at me.

It's a hybrid board. A board is layed out to replace a turret board. The board has eyelet style holes just like a turret board, it's wired up exactly like the turret boards where. Benefits are reliability, less prown to bad joints on the board and relays, also the ability to do DC heaters. The only audio that passes through any traces is right at the relays. All jacks and pots and tube sockets are all handwired, would you like me to go back to a inferior design with more issues? I don't think so. I'll say it's 90% handwired or more. In fact we are the only multi channel higher gain amps that are Handwired.

just for you and that massive brain from the man himself,so maybe you can a just stick to the teenager remarks seeing that's your best information about all this, you don't have an answer for the seversal times over I asked you "are you saying its a PCB" typical of such
