Finally retired the old PIAA auxiliary light set from the old warhorse.
I ride daily and it’s dark in the morning. On the bike by 5:15am. My eight mile ride to work is completely back road, farm fields. Deer are moving, but I don’t generally see them until it’s too late.
My old PIAA’s just don’t give me enough light, and it’s yellow. The headlight on these bikes is notoriously bad. At my age, going down again won’t be good, especially since I still hurt from totaling one of my bikes three years ago.
I have had a few close encounters with deer this year. The last being a week ago, doe and yearling directly in front of me. The doe was fine but the yearling wanted to go back from where it came. Crossed back, put me into the stones of the opposite lane and wiped its nose with my luggage.
Got new lights delivered Friday and installed yesterday. This morning was the first run and it was fantastic. Not that a deer can’t come running out of nowhere, but my sight was so much more. Wider and further down the road. 6000k color, white. Wired up pretty easy and gave me an excuse to remove some old wiring from other defunct accessories. Plus found that my battery + terminal needed some wire brush work. Emory papered the terminals I still needed to go back on the battery. The tank is a pain in the ass to remove, especially with no petcocks, so inspecting the battery doesn’t happen. It’s a mess and a project to remove.
Anyways, glorious ride in with a bit less stress. Not sure if it’s just getting old and not seeing as well as I used too, but having better light really made a more enjoyable ride in.

My buddy's applying for a "classic licence" or whatever they call it.

It's costing him a grand and a half just to meet the ridiculous roadworthy stipulations for said category. One of them is that all parts including exhaust and of course lights have to be factory-original.

IOW, he absolutely could not install a nice light like that... or decent indicator lights or shocks. Heck, he even had to replace the seat 'cause it had a nick in it.

The upside is that his yearly renewals will be way-cheaper. All he has to do is keep a log of all travel.

Do you know what the bike is?
Would love to see a pic if you ever have the chance.

It's a Triumph from around 2001-3 IIRC brother.

I don't have a mobile 'phone or camera unfortunately (never had either), but I'll ask him if he can take one when he gets the bike back from the roadworthy dude (been over a month now!). Then if I can get it onto my computer (Mac, he's got a Samsung but should be possible IIRC), I'll post it.
