New axe, Greco LPC

So I just won this axe on evilbay. Its a bit of a gamble i guess, cause I think "know" it's not a MIJ. It's a MIK... however, it looks awesome and I really hope it's a player aswell.. I don't really care where it's made, just that it play as good as a Gibson LPC. I think the prize was pretty decent.

Any lawsuit experts here? What do you think, is it a pig wearing makeup?

:rock: if it's a pig wearing make-up the make-up sure looks good on the pig! I think you got a good deal there, the price is really good too! HNGD :).
 
My MIJ Greco has a different inlay on the headstock and a serial number on the back of the head. I don't see the number on that one, but I don't know the details of what that might mean. I was under the impression that Greco has always made in Japan, but Burny has some Korean models.
 
Looks awesome, very similar to my late 80's MIJ Burny LPC (which is a killer axe!!)

Yes, this is without a doubt a MIK :) And the price shows.. I had a MIJ Burny once, that I unfortunately sold. That thing had some of the best tones i'v ever come across in a Les Paul.

I'm curious to see how this compares.. also the fact that the fretboard is NOT ebony, but ebanol.

Thats why I was asking if this is just a pig in disguise ;) However, I could be getting myself a hell of a guitar hear for cheap!! I hope so. Les Pauls are my favorite type of guitar...

I was considering selling it.. But then I pulled it out of the case, played it for an afternoon and decided its going nowhere :D
 
I have a bunch of MIJ LP's and a few Gibson's as well. I have also had one just like that and it was a great playing guitar...about 9.5 lbs if I remember and had a great unplugged sound. I think it was one of the first MIK ones as mine had some MIJ signs too so it was hard to tell but it played great. I have some great Fujigen made ones that aren't going anywhere. The secret is out on the MIJ LP's of old and if you're not a brand snob they are great guitars.

The problem is it drives up the prices. I remember a few years back being able to find Greco, Burny, Orville by Gibson, and Aria all day long in the $500 range. Tokai Love Rocks were a bit more. Now the best you can do under $800 is Yamaha Lord Player or Studio Lord. Old skool Aria PE are over a grand.

Totally correct... MIJ's are really close to the price range of gibsons these days.

I mean.. this is not even a MIJ, and it's 2000Usd, WTF?!

Ah, didn't realize that... still. It's almost the prize of the 08 white Gibson Custom i bought in the states for 2400,-. I'd go for the Gibson, as I know plays fantastic forehand and it's build by Gibson Custom shop.

Ya agree with you totally.
 
If you aren't hung up on looks you can find great guitars that are a little beat. My Greco is dinged, the back is rashed up, but it plays and sounds killer. If you want closet queens they bring top dollar, and they are getting up there.

Here's an example of a guitar that was $500 just a few years ago.

Gonna check the local pages... MIJ's on ebay seems to be slightly steep. Even tho you probably get what you pay for, compared to poorly assembled Gibsons.

IMHO the best deals on MIJ guitars come from Japanese dealers. Yeah, shipping is a factor but if you can knock a few hundred off the price you still come out ahead.
