Hey guys, I'm really not much of a tube/pickup/speaker swap kinda guy, I tend to be pretty happy with my gear the way it comes, always been the kinda guy to just play and not be "too" concerned with my tone and small nuances, but I've been toying around with the idea of swapping out the bridge pickup in my JP6... it's not the BFR model, so I believe it's basswood? I honestly don't even really know...

Anyhow, was thinking of giving BKP a try, historically I've ALWAYS used Seymour Duncan pickups, and I still honestly think for the money they are the absolute best pickups out there, but I've had/have them in all of my guitars, so I'm looking for something different...

I play a lot of heavier music, would like really good clarity, and I prefer a good mid range, but not so much to where it's "honky"... I was looking at the Painkiller, but to be honest I have no idea why, I know nothing about any of the models...

What say you?!

Motor City Afwayu is GREAT for heavy tones! It also splits nicely.

From your description, I'd say the Nailbomb would be your best bet. Very clear and lots of mids, incredibly versatile yet can get plenty heavy.

I used to only use SDs for all of my guitars and in fact I loved them. But recently over last summer I got to record with Taylor Larson (periphery, sky eats airplane, life on repeat) and he only likes to use bare knuckles and wow I loved them. Just bought a Aftermath for the bridge of my 7string. It's the best pickup I've ever played. It's more musical and clearer. I'll still play SD, but the bkps are definitely worth the extra $$$

Had 2 JP6's............I tried the Miracle Man which was "OK"........was an improvement but not enough.....I traded it away. Go straight to Ceramic War Pig and thank me later. I hate the weak ass tones of Ibanez and EBMM basswood. The C-pig will fix that......especially if you down tune. I like the Nailbomb (and own one) but the War Pig wins out with this wood type here......It will make it tight and clear but also deliver the pummeling on command over the Nailbomb.......and whatever you decide I would advise you stay clear of the Painkiller.......that pickup with the bridge of the JP6 will be high end twang city...alot of people compare the AM to the PK.......haven't tried one yet but it it's anything like a Painkiller I would steer clear.........in my opinion BK's are great great pickups but you gotta match them up with the right guitar ie. wood or they can be underwhelming like any other pickup.......choose carefully Daniel-san... ;)
