Weight: 11 lb

The G12-60 is a custom made Celestion speaker that's very similar to a Vintage 30. Our opinion is the G12-60 is slightly warmer/darker than a stock Vintage 30 Guitar Speaker. The G12-60 has excellent low end response with smooth top end sparkle. Some of our staff members have said "this speaker sounds like a Vintage 30 that has been nicely broken in."

Power Rating: 60 Watts
Impedance: 8 ohms
Sensitivity: 100db
Magnet: 50oz
Frequency Range: 70-5000hz

Woah, cool. If they do this right, it could be a really great speaker. High hopes here, since I like what they've been coming up with lately.

edit: is this a reissue? Swear I've heard of a g-1260 before

There is a V1260 that they make for ENGL. Small magnet, not much better than their 70/80 speaker. It's part of the lower priced silver series.

Wasn't there a model G12-60 they used to make back in the 80's?

So essentially it is a WGS retro 30 clone :D
Or a response to the WGS vet 30, either way it seems WGS has gotten the attention of celestion....

I think it was a G12-70. I have a Carvin cab from the 80s and I believe it had GT12-70. One of the worse speakers I have heard.

That may be true otherwise but, not if they're loaded in an 80's Laney AOR cab. The
70's sound pretty good in that cab. A few years back I left one in our rehearsal
spot to use even though I had Bogner/Mesa etc.

I think Scumback has as well, hence the Creamback. And I think Celestion has come out swinging and kicking butt.

Isn't it true that you can find wierd combinations of certain speakers and cabs that just work. 75's get a bad rap but I've heard them sound great, but it was always when they were being played LOUD.

So true! I've always bashed 75s but I've been jamming my Mark through a 1960B for a couple of months now and it kills!

You are right. It was the G12-70 I was thinking of.

Carry on.

Anyone know anything else about this speaker?
Is it a custom tweak of the V30 for a boutique maker?
Or something that is being issued in the regular Celestion roster?

Agreed...those Laney cabs were really aggressive and projected well. What they lacked in warmth they made up for with teeth and balls. I had them in a Sunn cab and they sounded pretty good in it too. That said, they aren't "all around" good...rather I found them to be great for metal but not really a good choice for rootsier styles/vintage tones.

I've been seeing more WGS Vet 30's being used in pro cabs when watching gear reviews as of late. I know V30's record extremely well, haven't always been a fan of them in person though so this would be an interesting alternative.

If it sounds like a broken-in V30 when new, what does it sound like when broken in? Mush? A broken in Mesa V30 is one of my favorite speakers. But this thing kinda doesn't make sense to me...
