Just got my Crab Iron Forge today. I literally played it for just a few minutes before I hit record. Still getting a feel for it. I like it a lot though. I could easily dial in my basic crunch tone I mainly use. It loves a boost pedal. Near the end of the video I do turn on my SD-1.
It's way less bright than the Cali I had.
The little toggle is connected to the Pre knob. With the switch to the right the two gain knobs do nothing and maxing out the Pre knob gives a nice crunch tone.
With the switch to the left the Pre works with the two gain knobs. It's pretty killer so far. Of course since my life is currently in the middle of some major changes including moving and putting my gear in storage, I don't think I'll be keeping it long.

Dibs!

Dude, you pay cool shit man.
Great landing chords with fluid leakage
around the chords & keys.
That thing sounds killer man.

Whenever I see the Crab amps video’s..
I instantly think of Weezer..
“Craaaabb if you want to..she put her knickers on”

Love guys like this that cascade over into the scene and slap his competition sideways..
How much money was that amp again?

Fellas, we gotta get the guy with Crabs to build us a Larry clone
“Arry” will be the model name which is about as good as Larry for an amplifier company name👀

These Crab amps seem to have hit a little surge in popularity. Everything I've heard tone wise so far sounds pretty good. But I haven't seen a lot of talk on build quality other than someone mentioned the chassis was a little thin. Where does the quality stand? Good or good for the price?

Can someone elaborate on the transformers?

Toroidal design. Probably most common in modern electronics/PSUs. Supposedly less noisy due to not creating as large of a magnetic field. Which is likely true given the more common applications where precision is needed. Probably like anything it's going to come down to quality. Have seen them in rackmounted amps, though.

What are the percieved drawbacks?

I don't know of any off of the top of my head. Would guess that maybe in a tube amp you might be eliminating some of the feel/noises that give them that unique character. Kinda like how component drift or PAFs have their individual characteristics that give them each a specific/unique charm. Don't really want to use sterile, but maybe that's the right word in this context?

People talk down about Fender Silverface amps with a ultraliner transformer. I am always like "why?". They always say they just aren't as good.

I mean, they use them in some of the most expensive hifi stereos 🤷‍♀️

Hell yeah that sounds great, I'm eagerly waiting for mine haha :uzi:

The build quality is legit, here's a pic of Spawnofthesith's Crab Marcus.
Dayum
Crab if you want to..she put her knicker’s on…
She won’t be coming home..
Clean work.

I have 2.

I dont quite understand the concern on chassis. Eyeballing it, it seems fine.

Overall the amps seem fine. Jacks all secure. Fx loop is ok (I'm not a huge fx loop guy, I test reverb to make sure it works ok. But don't really use a whole lot). Materials seem fine.

Only real noticeable differences to me short of a deep dive with an expert

1. The back is exposed. That is no grill or grates over tubes in the back. Just a gap.

2. Transformers are different. Super light. I read they have benefits. While they look flimsy, at least superficially they feel solid. I have no idea why this wouldn't have been adopted in other companies since they are so light and seemingly just as good.

I felt around a bit the tubes and such. It all felt and looked fine. I'm not a tech or doing my own self repairs so the nitty gritty someone else would need to comment doing that deep dive.
