Fucking guitars sound absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!

The drums sound really weird, and I HATE the snare. The keys and vocals kill it for me :(. So sad. I could REALLY dig Petrucci in a different band.

exactly what i was thinking!

YES! Petrucci in a different band, like a real metal band, would be incredible! Jordan is really talented and all, but the sounds he chooses to play with are really odd and not my thing at all. And as some have said the vocals are tough to get past. Labrie can sing, but it does not fit here...

Didn't Mike Mangini play on the last album? That article says this will be his first album with the band.

The song sounds good, I still don't like LaBrie though.

I'm a casual listener. Not really a fan. I have a hard time listening because of the keyboards.
They always sound fruity and ruin the songs for me. Too bad, because the guitars are so killer.

In the 90s I loved DT. Now I find it unlistenable due to the wimpy vocal tone...I may also dislike progressive stuff at this point too, it all sounds like Metropolis part infinity

Petrucci totally kicks ass though, so it is a connondrum

I parallel many opinions given so far:
1) Great heavy guitar, reminiscent of Train of Thought

2) Jordan Rudess is a great technician, I just don't find his tone and melodies very fitting for the genre. DT will never be as good IMO as IAW and Awake w/out Kevin Moore

3) It's hard to find originality in anything DT does anymore (and I'm a fanboi). Every section reminds me of another section in another song in their vast song book. I like to think this is why Portnoy wanted to take a hiatus, he saw this occurring and didn't see an end in sight.

4) The song sums up post-Kevin Moore DT very well. If someone never heard DT you could give them this song and they could walk away with a pretty good sense of the music this band puts out.

5) I don't mind James' voice on recordings, live on the other hand, is a different story.

This song kicks ass up until LaBrie starts singing!!!
As posted on GAB earlier, now seeing your avatar you will get this.

LaBrie doesn't sound half bad on this, but to his detractors check out his solo stuff or even Ayreon's Human Equation, he sounds much better on that than he does in DT for some reason.

Jordan should hold back a little more like he did on the last album or he should rip like he did in LTE. But if they could swap LaBrie for Jorn Lande, then they would be the best band in existence IMO.

Ha. You got in there before me!

Yep!!!!      I used to be a huge DT fan, but they were getting heavier, which I liked a lot since I love heavy stuff as well as prog stuff, but LaBrie's voice is not suited for the heavier stuff IMO. The music on this is great though!!!   Petrucci always has delivered!!!

Technically that is amazing but for a song I'd give it about a 4/10. I've listened to it about 5 times now and I really don't have any desire to listen to it again. It's sad, so much talent but they don't seem to know how to write memorable songs anymore.

That breakdown towards the end with the keys is too cheesy, and the vocals sound like Dave Mustaine took some vocal lessons. If the keys and vocals were different or just removed all together, I could easily listen to them.

I dig it. Though Im generally a fan of everything DT has done with Jordan Rudess

Nothing these guys do or will ever do is remotely listenable to me. Guitar sounds like a huge rubber band with some Twink singing about shaving his ass.
