From the DT website:

"Dream Theater's "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" - Coming June 23rd!"

I'm a big fan of the music and especially Petrucci's playing and tone. Having said that, I have to confess I just can't get passed the singer's voice. Some times he's dead on and sounds great while other times he sounds like he's just yelling at the top of his lungs...NO musical content what so ever. Anymore, when I listen to DT, I find myself skipping over vocal parts or being pissed off 'cause they're crapping all over an otherwise great performance. Sorry, I want to like the vocals...I just can't.

Still, I'll buy the new DT when it comes out and hope the vocals are as minimal as possible.

You're in luck since this CD is coming out as a Special Edition including Instrumental mixes of all the tracks.

Well now, that's pretty interesting. Why do you suppose DT decided to include the instrumental mixes?

Probably because nobody listens to James LaBrie, anyway.

Man, I used to be hardcore into them. Lost interest after SDOIT.

I'd give it a listen, though.

+1000000

SDOIT was a great disc, and I can dig just about anything before that, but this new "Modern metal" DT is just horrid IMO. James' vocals and Petrucci's lyrics are just horrible for this genre.

That being said though, I was used to be a big enough fan to where i'll definitely give it a spin.

It seems to me that by including the instrumental mixes DT is acknowledging that there are a lot of folks that have an issue with Labrie's vocals. I wonder why they don't just consider a different singer.

cant wait!!!! to be honest, i though labries voice was alright

LaBrie was good on I&W and Awake, and possibly Metropolis pt.II, but one hte other discs, he falls a little short. He`s not a bad singer, he just doesn`t fit DT`s music all that good. (IMO)

His first solo album has some great moments, though.

I think Russell Allen from Symphony X would be GREAT in DT- a little more raspy, but still has at least the range LaBrie has.

I'd be interested in hearing the singer from Disturbed or even Queensryche with DT   ...

I have no problem with LaBrie at all, I think he fits the band really well. I haven't cared about Dream Theater in years though. I don't care for any of their newer stuff.

I hope it's better than the last album. Systematic Chaos was terrible IMHO. I liked Octovarium though.

I haven't liked one of their albums since Metropolis Pt. 2...and that came out 10 years ago.

Agree also about James Labre. Anoying!
How about Miles Kennedy or Lejon Witherspoon???!!

Im not a fan of the band but I never understood how critical people were about labrie.. I always thought that he was a good fit

I'm stoked about the new album. I'm a huge DT fan. I love the playing, the composition and I really dig Labrie too. The lyrics are not Peart-esque though.

What I'm not a fan of are DT fan-boys. I mean JP fan-boys. Dudes who play the man's rig down to the cables. Makes it hard to hang on the JP site.

Good to hear, I overall like JL, but when he starts screaming, I don't care much for.

Train of Thought should have been nothing but James Hetfield.
