Seller Update: Fees, Rewards & Standards
eBay buyers want value and selection from sellers they can trust--and good sellers deserve rewards for delivering great customer service. That's why we're making a number of important changes that may affect you:

Reduced Listing Fees
You asked, we listened. We're reducing Insertion Fees and adjusting Final Value Fees to lower your up-front cost to sell on eBay. You wanted free Gallery, now you've got it--plus more feature discounts.
Lower Insertion Fees
Making Gallery free
Lower fees for Gallery Plus, Picture Pack, and Feature Plus

Rewards for great sellers
There will be discounts and incentives for those who satisfy customers best. Who decides who gets rewarded? Customers do, by giving sellers high Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs).
More search exposure through Best Match
Fee discounts for PowerSellers
Increased protection for PowerSellers

Feedback Changes
Significant changes coming soon will increase buyer confidence and showcase good sellers.
Buyers will only be able to receive positive Feedback.
Positive repeat customer Feedback will count and Feedback more than 12 months old won't.
Negative and neutral Feedback left by the buyer will be removed for transactions in which a buyer doesn't respond to the Unpaid Item (UPI) or if the member is suspended.

For more details on how these changes may affect you, attend a special Seller Webinar at 10:00 a.m. this Friday, February 1. You may also see announcements from eBay executives on the Announcement Board.

Didn't see anything on here, and you guys should be warned. Guess the classifieds here will be seeing some increased usage in the future. Either that or stock in ky jelly is going to skyrocket

I guess I'm having some focus or comprehension issues right now cause I really don't see anything "wrong" in that list of changes :scared:

sellers can only leave positive feedback.. so if a buyer doesnt pay or wahtever you cannot leave them negative feedback.

since I rarely sell I dont care.

Can't neg buyers. It says feedback is removed for NPB but they do nothing to address feedback extortion. IE buyers asking you to shit to sri lanka, wanting partial refunds because they feel like it, demanding returns on items that don't fit... They no longer have the threat of a retaliatory neg to keep them in check so they can pretty much make the seller their bitch

on the other hand, the sellers have been making the buyers their bitch since the beginning. They should make it simple, the buyer cant leave feedback till the seller does. this way the seller cant hold the buyer hostage, and if the buyer doesn't pay, it gives the seller the chance to point that out.

I see it the other way around, why as a seller would I leave feedback before the buyer. How do you know the buyer is happy with the item? Often the buyer doesn't confirm that they got the item and there were no problems other than leaving feedback. I understand your reasoning, but you have to look at it from both points of view....

I e-mailed a complaint to Ebay on these new policies. I personally think having 2 feedback numbers would be better, one for buyers and one for sellers, they already split the feedback up like this now....

technically, the buyer completes his end of the transaction before you do. HE completes the sale, HE pays you up front, and then HE has to wait for the seller to ship, takes it on faith that the seller represented the item correctly, that the seller actually has the item on hand, or that the seller will actually ship the item in a reasonable amount of time.

I have never sold anything on ebay, only bought. I have had some great experiences, and some really lousey ones, But I have ALWAYS paid via pay pal within minutes of the auctions end, or when I have been invoiced with shipping charges. Not one buyer has EVER had to wait for my money or shipping instructions.
I HAVE, on the other hand, waited as long as 6 weeks for an item to arrive, only to check on the ups of fed ex shipping invoice that the seller took his sweet ass time to ship (lets face it, 3 weeks to get it sent out, if you insist on immediate payment, its not unreasonable to expect immediate shipment)

perhaps it's time for Rigtalk to add an auction forum?

This is the most ridiculous thing ever... How can a seller not be allowed to leave negative feedback to a non-paying auction winner? Or one who pulls the murderous PayPal scam of paying and then retracting payment from you once they receive the item from you and then deleting their account (you can only protect yourself by not shipping until the payment clears to your checking account. PayPal won't touch it then... now anyway...) I'm glad I sold everything I needed to before this.

+1.

I hold the feedback hostage in case the buyer dicks me over. Paypal always sides with the buyer.

Ahmen or Amen I'm not sure which...this is the absolute truth. I'm the type of seller to go the extra mile for my musician brethren and this is exactly what happened to me in the past. $2200 Soldano SLO shipped as soon as paypal payment received..a few days go by and bam, paypal just froze my account and reprimanded me for shipping the amp.

It did get sorted out because the buyer is a great guy who frequents this place!!! It still took in my opinion way to long to sort out. The paypal person whom I dealt with was just plain awful.

Ok, I don't get it. Why did they freeze your account? For what? Why reprimand you for shipping the amp? :aww:

I haven't had to wait too long for sellers to ship me items, but I have had that happen a few times and it sucks. I send the item out usually within 24 hours, and if I can't I send an email of when I am sending it out. When I do send the item out I e-mail the tracking number. I totally understand your frustration of waiting a long time for the seller to ship. Ebay gives the seller a month to ship an item, which sucks.

At the same time I had a hostile buyer one time, he bought a Sansui speaker for $10 was all. He threatened me from the beginning that it better be packed well, etc. I got payment, sent him the speaker, but I wasn't about to leave feedback until I knew he got the speaker okay. He gets it, leaves positive, but puts a nasty comment. I actually choose not to leave him any feedback at all, but I e-mail him and told him if I did it would be negative. This is one of the reasons I like to wait for the buyer to leave feedback....

I guess you guys haven't seen the good part yet. Now when you sell a higher priced item or item in certain category you get your funds on hold until the buyer leaves feedback, which means if you are shipping over 1K amp, you are screwed. You will have to pay for the shipping & sit & wait for the buyer to leave feedback.

I see these changes to be negative not only for sellers, but buyers too. You will see less & less good deals on evil bay. I do most of my transactions on boards like this, so I don't really care that much, but ebay officially sucks. They had their ridiculous fees & than paypal fees would top that & now THIS?! Pretty dumb on their side IMO.

I never leave negative feedback for people who don't pay anyways. It's not worth the hassle of them possibly leaving you a negative feedback. I just relist the item and move on.

The can freeze your account for any reason they come up with. This is why Paypal can be pretty scary. In my case the buyers credit card may have expired or there was some type of mistake made after the transfer of funds to my paypal account. The money was on it's way to my checking account, yanked and then the paypal account was frozen. I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury turds on a frozen pond.

The lady at Paypal reprimanded me for shipping the amp so quickly and not waiting at least a week upon receiving payment..basically told me I'm screwed. The buyer did fix everything but it was very clear to me how easy the potential for scam is...not to mention how slowly they acted on unfreezing my account.

Regardless, the seller should have the ability to leave negative feedback if the buyer takes forever to pay or treats the seller poorly in any way. That is the point of feedback. To alert others to how were you treated. You are free to do what you want, but if you don't leave negative feedback for non-paying bidders, you make it possible for them to do it again and again to others who then forfeit their listing fees. Sometimes listing fees are high, for example if you do a 2 category Gallery Plus...

I just recently had issues with paypal, in the end they got a nice go fuck yourself letter from me. Fuck paypal and ebay.

HUH? I didn't see that. Are you saying that PayPal will freeze your received funds until you receive positive feedback? I don't believe that. Can you point me to where it says that? Also, you can easily circumvent this by only taking payment in cashier's check or postal money order. How can they "hold" that? If what you are saying is true, I will never take PayPal as a form of payment again for any high priced item. I'm sure EVERY other person selling a high value item would do the same. No way PayPal/eBay would want that...

Safe Payments

To help ensure more buyers are protected, in some cases we'll require sellers to offer either PayPal or a merchant credit card to customers. PayPal buyer protection covers most qualified transactions up to $2000.00 USD.

Sellers will only be required to provide this safe payment option to customers in certain situations:

* For listings in riskier categories, like computers and cell phones
* If the seller has 5% or more dissatisfied customers
* If the seller has less than 100 Feedback

In a small number of cases (fewer than 5% of all payments on eBay), PayPal will hold payment funds until either the buyer has left positive Feedback or 21 days have passed without a claim.

Enjoy!
