Hey Stan......I hope you are doing well! Long time no see!

So after looking at the specs it looks like a 78 model specs so I'll pass on it myself.

I'm still 100% satisfied with my Seymour Duncan 78 model wound by MJ for most things Ed. But For exactumundo VH1 I highly recommend a Mighty Mite 1400(9K) vintage or new. The new ones are still made in the USA exactly the way they made then in the 70's.

If you haven't seen the Ossie Ahsen pickup comparison for VH1 you should check it out.

Good to see you ,isnt the 8.2k less than the 78?

They are shipping them
So possible some one has tried it?
There may very well be some who might have had early access to it and those people might be posting about it on YouTube you never know . I don't think the masses have gotten their hands on them yet .

There are so many EVH inspired pickups out there these days with most sporting an A2 magnet so I don't expect major differences in sound but some have superior hearing to me and can pickup subtle differences so it should be interesting .

For $219.00 it better kick ass .

Ive seen guys use Dimarzio's, Duncans, Motor City and various other pickups that sound really close to EVH. I have used vintage Dimarzio's, Mighty Mite and the Duncan 78 playing through various 100 watt amps and I still sound like me. I give up on trying to sound like Eddie.

‘61 PAFs were mid 7s and (mostly) had short rough-cast A5s

If you hear one of these (I had one made, but they sound like an SD 59N like Holdsworth used) through the right 12301 tone stack and gain structure and all…you will be convinced Ed was using his 335 pu.

Anyone make a good copy to try?

I love how they milk everything EVH. EVH himself could play any single pickup and sound like himself. But we gots to have it!! gimme gimme gimme.

I think Ed probably swapped to the PAF by the time they hit Europe or the Japan leg because the Selland Arena 9/22/78 show sounds more warm and PAF like compared to the Album release party(Die Laughing) in October 15, 1977.
9/22/78 PAF (8-9K)

10/15/77 Mighty Mite 1400 (9k)

9/22/78

10/15/77

The 78 show sound more scooped. The 77 show seems to have more mids. I'm listening to this on my computer with 5 different speakers blasting me.
