If it works like the Decimator G string.
one set of inputs an outputs is for your guitar, this "stage" for all intents an purposes is transparent.
the output of this section would go in to your boost pedals or the front of your amp.
if you were using boosts this would go after the boosts before the amp or in the loop
and if you are a straight in guy if you have a loop stick it there if not. *shrug* where ever works for you?
the second part or section is the part doing the gating the first part if doing the "trigger"
it allows for more dynamics in playing without being cut short by a noise gate. the second set of inputs gets gated once the first set of inputs input falls below your set threshold
Metal1977":2acup4a2 said:Yes, it's supposedly a trigger like the G-string. But only a input, no output. So it's not a loop. Like from a volume pedal output for tuner, in for tracking the signal and tell when to shut the gate down. At least, that's how Mike told me to use that option.
To be honest, i've never felt the need to use it like that.
I've tried almost every noise gate on the market. For me, it's the best product out there for high volume playing with a band. I use it to tame the squealing from high output pickups + boost + high gain amp. Slightly ahead of the Decimator II for that purpose.
By the way, Scott Ian replaced his Decimator for the ZUUL. That's what this picture is all about.

for me, and my experience with the Decimator and Decimator II, it did certain things REALLY well, and did other things better then the rest at the time but still more than an annoyance on certain things.
What are consider High output these days anyway? I'm using 400mv Dimarzios, it seems Mid to high output. so i'm sure you mean something hotter then this right?
I've not had much chance to check out many of the smaller winders... only the ones that happen to let the feces smear the fan...![]()
the Decimator seemed pretty wicked at the time, if i didn't get the biggest kick out of stacking all my boost pedals and just going to town every once in awhile, I'd still likely be using a plain Decimator II still. the Rack and G-string version are too rich for my blood. starting to poke back into Older Pro audio gates
I miss my old furman quad gate![]()

The Decimator is a downward expander, it does the same thing but a little differently than a noise gate, but i'm sure you already know that. I'm not bashing the Decimator, it's a very good product. It really depends on what you want to accomplish, what's in your rig and how you will use it. I use EMG's, can get pretty noisy at loud volume with a boost.
