the emf pulse from a nuclear explosion would probably cover a wide area. outside of jamming frequencies they also developed an he pulse round that can be fired from tanks or artillery for limited objectives. it's basically thick copper wire pressure wrapped around the he core. forgot some of the specifics about it.. but it too would be a blast.
i'd love to see some of those huge tubes. i do remember the tubes in the am transmitter at the local station were probably a good ten inches tall and four inches or so in diameter. don't remember who the manufacturer was.. could have been gates.. or ge.
Hey that'd be cool for some of the bass boomer hip hop cars in this town, just one quick blast and no more fun for the kiddy koos. Yeah I could think of a million uses for a pulse round :D

Well I guess I could dig them up,, my only worry is I may have fucked up my scanner when I DLed Cakewalk Sonar. It took so much room on my old PC I had to delete a ton of stuff. I do have the disk still to reload, but it all sounds so much like work.
Give me till Sunday and I'll see what I can do. By the sounds of things, much like me you seem to have an interest in new weapons and old tube stuff. What a great combo, Tesla would be proud.

Oh and one more word on the 833, it is the most common tube that hobbie guys use to make their own Tesla coil.

i've got a 1922 atwater kent and a bunch of other old tube stuff. i also read a lot. i've got quite a few books on ww II and the american civil war. my reading isn't limited to that.. i just find the topics historically important. i've also got a lot of biographies and autobiographies. still looking for a good one on tesla though. an amazing guy.. no doubt.. though i'd really like to put his little black box in a boom box car and watch the pieces fall off as it goes down the road.

Cool, my fav periods for study are WW2 and prehistory, but my fav movies are civil war. My rarest book is the Rommel Papers but I've read the most about the Russian front and a fair bit on the Bismarck epic.
I've got some really cool testing gear, all running tubes and all working as new. An Eico sweep generator(model 368) is the one that is mint, but I also have a functioning scope by Heathkit and a regulated power supply by the same which uses 2X6L6 for the HV OP.
I've read everything I can find on Tesla. Seems most of the not so secret weapons we have today are all based on his work. The man was 100 years ahead of his time, so I guess we're about to catch up with him.
Busy day here so for sure tommorow I'll see what I can do about them pics. There was 2, one with these giant round rectifiers, and the other has the monster water cooled RF tubes.
Oh and one last note for now, Hams still use tube gear quite a bit cause they are easier to DIY. My guess is between Hams, HiFi and guitar amps, there'll be a demand for these wonderious bottles of joy for a long time to come.

emerson makes alot of those trans tubes in a triode package.
As in today? GREENSTONE USA is the only group I know that still makes this stuff, outside of China. Be kinda cool to get a pair of new 811s so I can build a stereo amp, one with my old Western Electrics, and one as new. Push pull has too many advantages for me to waste them on SE, but then I'm not building for gigging or sale. I only build today* to improve my home system and it takes so much time creating something without anything preassembled, maybe by 2016 I'll be able to post what a PP 811 amp can do.

*LOL, my biggest draw for $ in amps right now is unmodding amps, mostly HiFi, but also some guitar stuff. There are so many hacks up here that I could be very busy if I did not have college to consider.

Have a great day all.

i've got an old philco signal generator. needs a cap job though.. and an old dumont self calibrating scope that needs an og3 tube and who knows what else. i have a few of the old aa5's and other stuff too. keep looking for the local ham swap meets.. but they always seem like they're a couple hours farther away than i'd like to travel at four bucks a gallon.
just started a rebel war clerk's diary and just finished campaigning with grant.

First it will invade Poland, and then France.

I hear that the French are already learning how to speak "vacuum tube"...

Just kidding folks. Nothing against anybody, just talkin' smack.

Hmmm, dont know..Looks cool sounds like a great idea.

The range of the amp was very wide...Not sure if was the clips, or what I didnt even look at the price..Wasnt that impressed.

Yeah ham swap outs are the best place to find all kinds of stuff. I know what $4/gallon gas can be like, those were the good old days as up here in oil rich Kanuck ville we pay close to $6.
I found the pics, but bogged down doing some other stuff. I must say thou my memory was not that great. Seems 2 decades can add a few feet to the view. The mounts were included in my estimate above. The rectifiers were at most 2', and the OPTs maybe 2.5'. The mounting hardware did make them as tall as men, but the water cooled rad hoses were not as such. They do have big air cooling fins, the hoses turned out to be just insolation on the terminals. Amazing how your memeory can play tricks sometimes

LOL, but you should know, they're called valves outside of north America.

living in northern wisconsin is sort of like canada from that standpoint that everything is "just down the road a bit." :D
