I will never buy a Gibson again. I've had many Gibson through the years - mostly custom shop. And every fucking time there has been quality issues. Mostly binding and paint failures.

I'm 3 for buying newer (2008, 2009, 2012) LP's used without ever laying a hand on them. 2 Historics and Production Traditional +

I have a 2003 R7 Goldtop that I recently took to my local luthier to setup for heavy guage strings. He called me on Saturday to tell me that the trust rod isn't working right and that it could have been threaded incorrectly at the factory... kind of shocked me at first, I have always heard tales of Gibson quality control issues but this was a first for me.

I had an LP Custom 68 Reissue that had a fucked up truss rod. It just spun freely. Luckily I was able to return that one.

Nope.

That Flying V custom is sexy as hell!

Just noticed they have the custom V on their site twice. One at $3799 and at $5399...

I'm not a Gibson guy at all, but some of these look pretty nice. Having said that, the price point is beyond stupid.

I'm not a fan of Gibson's pricing and think they are way too steep...same with Suhr with 3k for an alder body bolt on strat. I bought my Historics used so I wasn't one to lose 50% on resale. The last one I bought was an R7, paid $2100 shipped w/o pickups (put Antiquities in her). The thing had a tag for $4999 in with case candy..was about 4-5 years old when I bought it

It just keeps getting better. Henry fired Rick Gembar yesterday, the last of the knowledgeable ones in the Custom Shop. So now with Edwin Wilson, Rick Gembar, and Pat Foley out of the picture, my bet is you will see a huge decline in Custom Shop quality, accuracy, and ultimately...demand. Henry is too stupid to see it, but he just initiated the complete end of the Custom Shop.

The tale has it that Rick Gembar was also behind this great idea, is that true?

Rick started as the Custom Shop manager in '93, so I highly doubt he was involved with that thing.

So now that those guys left will the custom shop close and will it be only made to measure? or just regular production? HJ is effin Gibson beyond measure...

If Gibson could make and sell the Les Paul custom Lite's for $1,699 just a few years ago, they can make and sell these SG's for under 2 Grand and not for almost 4k

LPCTLEBGH1-Finish-Shot-jpg.aspx

That's the difference between Custom Shop built and USA built. The LP Custom Lites were Gibson USA and not Gibson Custom Shop. If it's built in the Custom Shop it's automatically going to be much higher priced.

It's the same with every guitar company. Look at the price difference between USA Fenders and Custom Shop Fenders, PRS and Custom Shop PRS, ESP and Custom Shop ESP, Charvel and Custom Shop Charvel, etc.., etc..., etc...
