I think the song (single maybe?) I heard over the weekend was soooooo bad that I never even really listened to the tones...
What happened to them? I mean I was never a huge fan but they did write decent songs, or so i thought.
I dunno ive only really heard them on the radio in passing, I was way into thrash metal long before they came out and they seemed soft.

I know the guitarist was using Splawns a few years back. Quickrod then later Nitros.

Nope, I never liked Godsmack either, I think Sully's voice is awful 
I heard an interview with him talking up this new cd on the radio a few weeks back talking about how great it was going to be and how much different than their other stuff was...it sounds exactly the same

I always disliked their muffled and congested 2 dimentional Triple Recto tone. Not sure what they use now. The guitar sounds a bit better than before, but nothing to write home (or on RT) about.
I did like their Zeppelin cover a year or two ago. He was using a JVM for that track, and the tone was good.

i liked their very first album since their sound was kind of novel. The rest of their albums aren't bad just too much of the same thing imo.

Even when they first got popular when I was in high school, I didnt think they were very good. Just a mediocre rock band that came out at the right time and got lucky. They do put on a good live show however. Saw em at Rockfest in Cadot, WI in '06 and they were very good. Just don't think their music is very special.
