Some of you may know that I make guitars for a living, but I dont often get to make a guitar exclusively for myself.
So ok - I needed another guitar like a hole in the head (according to my girlfriend) , but I use it as an excuse for keeping my interest in my business alive and well on a selfish personal level.
It also means that I will always have certain guitars on hand for players to try out as well....

So it's a Feline Lion (which is our Arched toop singlecut design) with all my favourite bits:
Sperzel tuners
Earvana Nut
Rosewood board with Dunlop 6000 frets & real MOP inlays
As ever I use a 3 piece quartersawn neck with a deep tenon into the body that allows a fabulous carved heel that gives easy high fret access
Bare Knuckle Pickups Mule Pickups
CTS pots and Vitamin Q caps
Tonepros bridge
Tonepros split tailpiece studs and an aluminium tailpiece
Finish was supposed to be similar to PRS Tiger Eye finish - we stained the wood black and sanded off the stain - leaving it trapped in the grain , then went over with a rich amber stain giving the quite striking look you see
Body thickness is about 5mm thinner than a full depth Lion- weight is about 8.5lbs

Sounds fabulous through my Egnater & Randall Rig!

So here she is

Even the knobs match the finish - tasty!

That certainly looks great & I like the body shape & specs also. I kinda wish I could try one.

Thankyou nbarts - very much appreciated!
That was the first guitar we had reviewed in a guitar magazine : GuitarBuyer (UK) did a lovely review on it back in 2003
Only thing they didn't like was the typeface of our logo - one of the reasons we changed what we put on that style of guitar.

It got traded last year by the original purchaser - was still in pristine condition
One of our custom built customers now owns that one as well as his custom built silverburst - see below

Nice workmanship, I love the neck joint, the color, and the other nice details. You should be proud of that one  I do have to say (and dont be offended) that your logo does not do that guitar justice. You should have done it in some type of old-style script.... just sayin  I know....... shutup asshole right? She's beautiful

Now THAT is a proper player's heal and it looks great!!!

Beautiful work man

That is a beautiful guitar. Excellent work you did on that one.

That neck joint looks amazing! Great looking Les Paul!

Well, if you are looking for critique, I can definitely do that too. :D I'm not so thrilled about your current logo either.

This one is awesome too, are these ebony fretboards?

Lion-jmac-front726px.jpg

Yes - we seem to use a lot of Ebony as per customer request - the one I just made for myself is rosewood and another I have is dark Macassar Ebony

We use the old style script mainly these days
The square blocky style logo doesnt sit well on Les Pauls
It was tough trying to use something where players dont say you are trying to look like another companies logo- especially when your name is 6 letters long starting with an F with a tall letter in the middle and two letter "e"s in there as well (Feline = Fender)

To be fair there are loads of logos that are very well established which aren't great logos but are respected and even loved because the public are so used to them.
It's something that is constantly under review but I dont want to be chopping and changing all the time

But thankyou for the positive vibes over the look and build style /quality of the guitars - nice to hear

Dont sweat the logos, sweat the the art of function which other 6 letter names seem to miss

Dude, those are freaking sweet looking! I've ran across your stuff on the BK forum, but for some reason I didn't pay much attention. Don't know how I could've done that  because I really like those

No intent to hijak the thread, but what ever happened to Gene Baker? his fidddles where top notch but i hear nothing on this or anny forum about them
