About a month or so ago, I traded one of my guitars (A Suhr Guthrie Modern that I wasn't playing. Great guitar, just never bonded with it for some reason) straight up for a dead mint PRS Modern Eagle II Quatro, a great deal for me value-wise. They are beautiful guitars and I'd been interested in them for awhile and I'd recently gotten to play a couple of nice ones that I really liked playing. They sounded kind of like nice Les Pauls, but played much easier for me. As I've said here before, I'm a Custom Shop Charvel guy mostly and while I like how Les Pauls sound, I hate playing them. They are just not comfortable to me...

Anyway... I made the trade and when I got the guitar I was really blow away at how it looked and sounded, but I didn't say anything here because I wanted to make sure this guitar was one I would enjoy playing long term and keep for awhile. Well... after playing it for the past month or so, I'm now sure it is going to stay. It sounds HUGE and is even really loud acoustically. What really mattered most to me though is that I really love how it plays - not like a Les Paul at all. It certainly isn't what I'm used to with my Charvels and the neck is fatter and quite wide (although I will say my favorite Charvel is 1 3/4" nut and fatter neck profile), but it plays much more "shreddy" than Les Pauls feel to me. The shorter scale length definitely helps with my f'd up left hand as well... I usually play trem guitars and don't like stop tails, but I'm surprisingly comfortable on this guitar. Forces me to come up with something when jamming instead of just grabbing the bar when I run out of ideas... which is quite often... :D

I like it so much, I've made some customizations... Replaced the stock plastic truss rod cover with a rosewood one with an abalone tribal sun inlay... I've also ordered from exotic wood pickup rings and a backplate I think will look cool. Yeah I know... very lawyerly... :gethim:

Here's some pics the previous owner took for me. Came with a real snazzy looking paisley case too! I'll post more pics when my customizations are done. I'd definitely recommend these for players that play more shreddy guitars but dig the LP sound... One of our own has a really nice one for sale in the classifieds for $3800 - good price. My 2 cents anyway... maybe 10 cents with all this typing...

How are you doing with the wrap-around tailpiece?
Well, the guitar stays in tune fine and for whatever reason, even though I 99% of the time play trem guitars, I find the tailpiece really confortable when I'm playing... No problems at this point...

What is your experience?

Steve

I know that PRS and PRS SE guitars are two completely different animals, but when I got my PRS SE Custom 22 I felt the same way - shreddy but with a les paul-ish tone. surprisingly the wrap around tail piece is lovely, I'm usually a tune o matic or string thru type of guy.
I loved my Les Paul but at the end of the day I need a double cut away guitar to feel comfortable and this has been the best "inbetween" of those worlds, les paul sound, double cut away access and comfort.

once again, before anyone loses their shit, I am very aware I am talking about an import/lower level guitar.

congrats on your cool ass guitar, Steve, it's BEAUTIFUL

Yeah, I bet those PRS SE guitars play just great and sound great as well. You certainly don't have to spend a fortune to get a great playing/sounding guitar and it sounds like the PRS SE you got is feeling and sounding to you just like what I'm saying. I just happened to have something that someone wanted and ended up with this somewhat "museum piece" looking guitar... :D :gay:

Wow, that thing is nice looking. I've always liked PRS guitars. Tonewise they can really vary but the good one's really sound nice. Thier general popularity in the real world went through the roof in the 90's and early last decade but they still make nice stuff. Just be picky about it. They're still way more consistent than Gibson.

Awesome guitar and you know my opinion on LPs. I need to see the case. Bring on the paisley case...

I'll post one when I get home... I do have a couple, but they are on my home mac...

Great looking guitar Steve! The flame top looks great and I love the neck. Congrats.

Yep looks great and love rosewood necks. I recently played a PRS that impressed me. Yeah the neck shape was a little different but the tone and looks... very nice!

Congrats! I love my PRS, too. But it's a Singlecut. So it leans more toward the LP thing.

I've always been a PRS guy. A PRS was my first "real" guitar and I was always drawn to them. But, I will admit to loving my Les Paul more. They both feel great. The PRS feels like it has a larger neck radius and thus more room for my fingers to spread out and relax. It plays faster and smoother. But there's something about my LP that is magical. I don't know what it is. And neither guitar really does what the other one can. So I get two unique sounds out of each.

In any event, enjoy the fuck out of that PRS! I wish mine had a Rosewood neck. I'd love to get my hands on a Modern Eagle.

Congrats Steve, looks awesome :inlove: :worship:

I picked up a PRS last year and it killed all guitar gas for me. Just like you said, it sounds LP-ish but plays a lot better and the tops are exponentially nicer than LPs IMO. I haven't felt the need to swap pickups in it either which for me is an oddity.

Yeah, I have to say, I dig the hell out of the pickups! I have no idea what all the PRS pickup designations mean (these are "53/10"), but they sound great...

Now I've been looking at some Private Stock Singlecuts on eBay... goddamn those are sweet...

Steve

The 53/10 model utilizes the same PF09 ultra-thin, semi gloss nitro finish that was used on Paul’s Dirty 100, which adds to the natural resonance of the wood. Paired with select mahogany backs and Private Stock grade quilted maple tops that Paul had set aside, this 100 piece limited run is truly distinctive.

and DUDE.. i think your guitar is actually better looking but almost identical to the one on the web page! check this link out brother!
