New Head Shell Day, Amp Gut Shots

Finally got down to Krank to get my salt 'n' pepper head box.
I remembered to take the camera to get some gut shots of my new Nineteen80.
I've been gigging like crazy since November when I got the amp, still loving it.
Very much unlike my Revolution, completely different tone.
Two 6550s, I'm guessing the design should be like a JCM800 2203, but I am not technically qualified to say.
Maybe some of you awesome amp gurus here can tell what they're doing in this series.
Sorry for the slightly out of focus shots, the Krank guys are going nuts getting ready for NAMM, but still made time for me.
The head shell I had was a black, they were out of stock on the other until now, so they switched out the box for me yesterday.

I have a Chadwick single channel. Wow, hard to say "better", because it is completely different.
This is the first Marshall-y sounding amp that's working for me. I was hesitant about pulling the trigger on the 1980 because I was worried about the cleans. I had demoed one with the matching cab (Eminence Governors) and though the lead channel ripped, the cleans were simply "meh". But then I heard a 1980 head through a Marshall slant cab with greenbacks and g12-65s, and the cleans sounded phenomenal!
So I took the plunge and it sounds great with my Rev cab - (Eminence Legends).
The lead channel has it's own character to it. The 6550's have this mid range roar that just floors you.
I use the Chadwick with a pedal board out front, really great amp with pedals.
I would have to say the 1980 is better on the gain channel, just more aggressive, but it has a distinct Marshall flavor to it.
Cleans are really Fender-y in the 1980, Chadwick probably more versatile on what you can do with clean tones, just more controls to shape the preamp tone.

Thanks! I think I'll probably own either the 1980 or a Chadwick one of these days...I thought they were similar, but apparently not. Looks like I actually should play them before jumping in and buying one. Nice looking amp! Glad you like it.

Thanks for the gut shots, always nice to see. I must say the 1980 looks like its built pretty well. Not the cleanest wiring job ever, but neat. They appear to be using double sided FR4 PCBs, which IMO is a must if you have PCB mounted tube sockets to prevent pad lifting.

The headshell looks great, but to me the graphics on the amp chassis leave alot to be desired.

Agreed. Not too thrilled about the aesthetics of the front panel labeling. I do like the overall look, however.
It weighs a freaking ton, glad they spec'ed some decent transformers for this model.

So any idea what that sweep knob does?

Parametric EQ. Gives a healthy bump to the frequency it's pointed at. Pretty handy, not too wide or narrow.
I use it to control the lows, very handy for adjusting to the boomy-ness of a room or big hollow stage, conversely good for pumping some thump into a lower stage volume, small cab situation.

Nice. Sounds like a really handy feature (knob) to have.
