New Herbert owner here thanks to Pauly!

After a slight scare, I'm VERY happy...my tone has never sounded so good. Thanks Papa D!

The slight scare? Got it home, powered it up, warmed up, hit one chord and POP!! Blown fuse. Tossed in a new fuse today and we were rockin!

Hello New Herbert Owner,

when fuses blow this is usually a sign of trouble with the power tubes. If the fuse blows again it might be time to swap the tubes. Just 1 month ago I rebuilt a Herbert which smoked and melted (circuit boards) due to old faulty tubes. The amp was totaled.

If you don't know how old the preamp and power tubes are you might want a full re-tube before anything else happens.

At the least get the bias of the power tubes checked. It should be at 70-75mA per PAIR. The bias changed by itself over time and rebiasing every few months is a good idea, especially if you do recording sessions or gig around.

Important: Use CERAMIC fuses for the power tubes. Glass can blow up and creates a big mess inside the fuse holders. The debris is very hard to remove. Ceramic fuses do NOT blow up and are safer ! You can get those at stores or I've got them in stock.

If you have any questions please contact me anytime.

Cheers,

Jens Kruse

Congrats and enjoy and welcome to the diezel family.

Thanks again Robb!!! Enjoy the amp. I hope it puts as many smiles on your face as it did mine over the years!!!! Its a great amp!! She will be missed in the stable...but would rather have someone get use out of it!

Thanks for the warm welcome Peter, Jens and everyone else. I haven't had a chance to spend too much time with it yet, but I've been blown away so far...of course, I expected nothing less than perfection!

Ceramic fuses are the best way to go. Glass as stated is a mess. just think of the mess it makes when a glass is dropped on the floor, little pieces go everywhere  . Always best to watch the power tubes like a hawk especially if fuses are going on you. IIRC, Tubes can fail several ways, fail open, fail closed or they can short inside the tube. If they fail open or short that is very bad and can damage the amp . If they fail closed then the tube just does nothing and the amp stops and i believe is less likely to damage the amp.
