Fuck, Bill Landry has some Great Chops!!!
I love the Sound of that new Landry!

You know Dom, I wish Bill had this amp out
earlier. I owned the LS100 for a while and I
couldn't stand the fact could not squeeze any
more gain out of her. I had to use a Boost, which
added a Ton of unwanted noise and I still wasn't
satisfied with it..... So off she went!!

I'm sure if I owned his current incarnation
it would've had a permanent spot in my stable
of High Gainers.

What I meant to say, is that the amps are so different, they shouldn't be compared. Sorry.

sounds good-always thought your amps sounded cool

first thing struck me was it sounded like my tol 100 but with like you mention more articulation in the marshall camp--the one area the tol ch 3-4 seemed a bit limited

i can understand the comparison against the carol ann but i'd project what i'm hearing of your amp tone in a live mix equalling more cut and slice, not as much dynamics. similar to splawn..great live rock amps.

the carol ann clean tone rivals the very best out there and outshines what i hear in the landry, and the CA dirty tones are not as focused on presence as much as thick weighty single notes with definition, and a pretty darn unique rhythm crunch tone with a metric ton of tonal range.

I agree that the Carol Ann is a very nice amp, and I have great respect for them, but the two amps are really in different camps. They are made for different players.

Guys, this amp is available now for the same price as an LS100 ( $2500.00).

Yesterday I had the opportunity to a/b it with a Carol Ann od3 and I have to say, with all due respect to Carol Ann, the LS100 M is in a different league. Without even going to the high gain channel, the LS100 M has more gain and is more articulate.

The cool thing about the LS100 M is that it can go from the dark Bonamasa type tone like the od3, to a much more open and lively tone.

I can also convert any LS100s or 50s out there to the M version for $250.00 (you pay for shipping both ways).

That was not professional dude. You shouldn't need to leverage another boutique builder to pimp my own wares. Not cool. We don't do it.
Ive got no dog in this hunt but it seems like the guy clarified his position with the post above you. Ill also submit that amp comparos are inevitable, how could you not expect that?

Agreed about throwing other builders out there while reviewing your own work, I can see wanting to do that and feeling there is no foul that you are just trying to get a point across but still bad taste.

He's the builder !! You just don't do that.
I understand and I think he realized that as well with that other post that I eluded to. I happen to agree that your amp and his amp are different beasts geared towards different players so the comparo was pretty much apples and oranges... But yeah, while I dont think that it was malicious, he probably shouldnt have gone there.

It's hard business to be in, there's enough consortiums of non-builders popping up all over dilluting what we do without us levergaing against each other. I respect others in my business and would never ever ever leverage their work to pimp my own wares. People buy what they want and come to their own opinions. Let the customers speak for you.

It is what it is, whatever.

Wow.....who would have ever seen this going poorly? :D

Earlier today I saw Jerry post an ad for his version of the "Aldrich" mod in someone's for sale thread....wtf???

Very true, the term "builder" is as abused here on RT as a hooker in NYC during fleet week. Everyone and their grandmother can now build Jose high amps, mod marshalls, even hand tune to make their stuff sound like someone else tuned it. It is getting rather boring watching these guys buy everyone's amps to tear apart then sell them, hang on the metro forum for a few months, then BAM I am a builder. One day one guy's stuff is plain vanilla and after having an amp in his shop is putting out flamethrowers. Jose cloning is as bad as dumble cloning at TGP. The real builders have to compete with this bullshit.

There are some that have posted progress and some even went to classes and seminars, I have respect for those guys.

That last comment was not directed at Landry btw, just random thoughts of threads past and the ramble felt good.

I agree and Ive always said that a person should be able to stand on their own merits and if they have to tear down others to make themselves look better, then they never had anything of real worth to begin with. Yeah, looking back, Landry was better off not saying anything.

The one thing that stands out to me is that when you bring up guys making Jose clones or Dumble clones is that in the end, all of this stuff is based off of something else IMHO. I could be wrong and am more than happy to be corrected but is there anything out there that is truly original after Marshall and Fender? Ive seen some builders come up with loads of cool features and options but in the end, arent they all variations on a theme? Hell, how many OD pedals are out there that are little more than a tweaked Tube Screamer?

Just my .02, not lookling to shit on anyones shoes and am more than happy to be corrected and learn something new...

Don't even get me started on the modded Marshall thing.....lol....I can't believe something we did in England back in the mid 80's out of sheer necessity has become such a trendy sensation here in the US in the 2000's. Still doesn't beat the number of Plexi clones you see on ebay though !

Bill Landry is a great player, but I know nothing about his amps, I've said my piece and called him out. I don't think he needs to leverage anyones work if his amps are as good as his playing. No grudges held.

I apologize to Carrol Ann. I think Carol Ann's are very cool amps, and I shouldn't have gone there.

Just made myself lol, and thought I'd share :D

Ok....so the Carol-lAnn builder is fairly reserved...........

Imagine the reply from Mark Cameron, if the comparison were to his amps...It would have probably started with...."You rotten MotherF^&*er...you F&*#ing piece of sh%^"...and gotten progressively uglier :D

The stream of profanity would have been truly epic

......................and there was my morning chuckle :D

Guys over here were modding amps back then too....also out of necessity.
