This new machine head song that just dropped strikes me as odd. I feel like they ripped off strapping youg lad...it’s damn close to being the same riff.

I found it lame, and I'm a big fan.

Good Lord I did not like that! Yeah I hear the similarity to the SYL track but this song is certainly no "Love"...

I think the only Machinehead album I really liked was Burn my Eyes and even then I think I only liked that song Davidian... anyway that new song reminds me more of Kittie's "Spit".. at least just the opening riff, check em

Sounds amazingly alike and yet it’s not what I would call good. Their first two albums were great but after that they’ve been all over the place. Through the Ashes of Empires was the last good thing they put out.

Burn My Eyes will always be their best. They really have been all over the place. Through Ashes Of Empires probably was their last great album. The Blackening had it's moments, and Locust had a few good tunes, but they're both hit/miss..

It's disappointing. Hopefully the rest of the album will be better.

Yeah I never got into these guys. I have tried a few times but it ain't for me I guess...

I too heard the similarity to Love...... But this tune ain't getting me too jazz'd. That and the way Robb's talked about this album.....
“I feel like metal could really infiltrate the mainstream with this album. And it needs to... now more than ever," comments Flynn. "A lot of consideration went into making these songs more identifiable to a wider audience. Simplifying ideas, simplifying hooks, really concentrating on story-telling as opposed to ‘brutal poetry’ or whatever. And while I’d love to say it was all some grand plan, there was no ‘plan.’” You never know where you’re going to end up whenever you start writing a record... you just write... but I tell ya what... we ended up with a landmark here. Whenever you finish an album, you always feel proud, but this time... we’ve got something really special. We can feel it. We know it. Catharsis could really elevate our genre."

Makes me a bit worried like they're gonna try the Burning Red all over again..... :gethim:

Me neither man.. that whole NU metal period just wasn't my thing... I dated a chick that used to love this song, lets just say I heard it a lot. =/

Wow they sound quite alike huh.

The Blackening is my fav followed by Unto the Locust.

Machine Head showed AMAZING potential (Burn My Eyes / The More Things Change)...I appreciate that they have kept things going and flying the metal flag (and made some good material along the way), but the truth is that that band has not been the same since Logan Mader left.

LMAO! I just caught this yesterday in my truck about half way through or so and the first thing I thought before looking at the screen of my radio was good God man who's butchering Halo?!!! I just knew that somebody would be making the comment soon.
Huge early MH fan. Much love but really, like a few of my favorite bands, have just changed too much for my personal liking. Recent disapproval Mastodon. For me they, in particular are just getting too polished. All bands evolve. I mean that's the natural way of progression but I'm really finding more and more that I'm drawing lines in the sand with my favs. Maybe im not not ready to evolve with them

I remember when Burn My Eyes came out, everyone thought they were going to be the next "huge band". Monster album, still hits hard. This stuff, I just can't get into.

There is no denying that the main riff in this song is nearly identical to the intro for "Love". The song really grows from that riff though. I thought MH's last tape was the best thing they had done since "TTAOE". I dig this tune and the dual guitar solo works for me

dosent someone somewhere along the long line, be it the engineers or label or whoever bring this to their attention? they are on nuclear blast, im sure someone over there has heard SYL before.

The riff is so identical I actually believe they didn’t rip it off. Too obvious. There is no arguing it’s exact.

It's funny, Ive been listening to their first two for the first time in a long while recently and they don't do anything for me anymore. I loved them when they came out but hate the fizzy guitar tone now and don't even feel the material has legs. It kind of threw me because I can't think of another artist where I loved their initial release and grew to not feel good about it years later.

On another note, was checking out Kreator's Gods of Violence. Now that is pretty damn good. Unfortunately it follows the modern blueprint of replaced or triggered drums up the wahzoo. I'm waiting for someone in thrash/melodo-death to break this longtime trend and give us the sound of a band again, not software.

I agree I like it and Blood Stones and Diamonds is awesome! Wasn’t instantly accessible but grew on me a lot and is one of my favorites now! First two are classics too.
