These look great but wish they had boosted modes of some sort. Why won’t Marshall hot rod the 800? Arg!

They do... it's the mini Silver Jublilee 2525h/c
That little anniversary series, those 1w mini heads? The JCM 800 1w had a little boost button that saturated it nicely. Would've been cool to put that on this 20w.

I never realized those had a boost. Would have been perfect here, but I guess they wanted to keep it a stock 800 and use your own boost per usual.

Not the same circuit :)

One thing I noticed on these is that the studio plexi and 800 have new cabinets with the celestion V speakers while the new Jubilee studio still uses the same greenback in the combo and v30s in the 2x12 like the reissues. I understand the V is more like an inexpensive general speaker like the Seventy 80.

In the Thoman review, the Marshall rep says they blind tested several different speakers with it and the overwhelming consensus was the V type sounded better. He even laughed and said they ran the test many times to make sure. So that’s what they went with.

The Studio 800 might make a good platform to mod, just depends on what the PCB is like and if there's room.

The Studio 2525c/h are the same as the mini Jubilee that's been around for years, no changes. They just put it in the "studio" category now.

Thinking about mods already...that's why I love you man.  Edit: EVH Modded Plexi 20's

I hope so, they sounded good in the video, the JCM800 clip sounded great. I thought the jubilee studio sounded the worst of the three and it was through the v30 2x12 cab.

I personally have no need/desire for a 20w JCM800, modded or stock. But I'm sure someone out there will want a Jose Studio 800 lol

Get that money

20w out of two el34? please explain to me, class A? not sure

Cathode bias and/or lower plate voltages apparently. Someone more tube tech knowledgeable can tell more. IMO it would have been better if they had gone with 6V6 tubes to get that output. I think these will sound a lot like their bigger brethren but will have looser low end and less dynamic range.

A good concession would have been to add a defeatable post-phase inverter master volume to the Plexi as well. Judging by the Anderton's video it's still going to be seriously loud before you get some nice overdrive out of it.

Apparently these are at GC now. The Plexi indeed needs to be rather loud to get crunchy, as you’d expect. Reviews say the little 800 is awesome.

I’m hoping to see gut shots.

It is true that you can find a lot of original 800' s used in the 800 range so really comes down to whether the loop and power drop is effective. The smaller size def is.

The only problem now is that some big players are going G to be playing in that price range. I mean the Friedman mini JJ now or the eventual release of a mini bigger ecstacy? Interesting...

I just fired up my latest design: a 10W medium-high gain amp with a pair of EL34s (or whatever octal tubes you wish to use). It rocks. Might add power scaling on the next one, but that might increase the form factor a wee bit.

Got any pics or vids of it in action?

Sending you a photo by email. Would like to stick it in a head-shell before posting publicly.
Hope to send it to a guitarist in Calgary for some clips after he gets back from NAMM.

This is the second one I have built. The prototype sounded killer, and so I redesigned it to fit into a 17.5" x 6.5" chassis. Without headshell, it weights just 10 lbs.

With the master at 9-10 o'clock, it hits 104dB through my 212 cab loaded with Vintage 30s. So still plenty loud.
