After a couple listens, I'm really digging their new album. A couple songs like More Than I Could Chew and Peace and Tranquility caught my attention right away while some of the others like Had It All have really grown on me. Overall, I would say another solid addition to an already impressive catalog.

I haven’t heard it yet. The production on the last album the guitars was too dense/muddy. Wish they’d do just one track each, one hard left, the other hard right. I’d like to hear a less dense mix from them. I do dig them and think their songwriting improves with each album.

It’s a lot to take in at first . But it will grow on me I like it

I'm a few listens in. There are definitely some cool songs and parts on there that I dig, but they could have trimmed some fat imo. Many of the mellower songs start to sound the same imo. Had they edited themselves I think the album would flow much better and be stronger overall. That said, I like it because the good songs are solid and it definitely has that "Mastodon sound". It’s just not a listen straight through album for me at the moment.

I agree they're getting better. Much better. I don't like their earlier sludgy, noise rock stuff.

Have not got my hands on it yet but looking forward to it.

Yes, you have to approach their albums in smaller pieces and build from there. Like 2 or 3 songs at a time. Listen to 3 songs. Digest. Listen to same 3 songs again. Digest. Repeat. Comprehend. Understand. Move on to next 3 songs.

Can't disagree here. I assumed they did that to give the album more of a doomy sound that otherwise would not have been there.

I've been listening to them since Blood Mountain. They have talent spilling out of them. Seen them live twice. The loudest band, I ever heard next to Gojira and Meshuggah.

I like the new one a lot so far. It arrived a few days ago and it's been on constant rotation in my car since then. There's some great songs and I think the production is better than Emperor of Sand.

It's nearly an hour and a half long, so technically a DOUBLE album!

So I heard it today. It is more experimental than maybe The Hunter. Definitely a change in pace and style. Some of it sounded like rock but they still include some epic metal ballads in there and of course the alt-metal they are known for. Big album. I didn't get all the songs on it which might be a good thing. I will listen again to see if I will add it to my vinyl collection with their other albums.

There was a Brent-sung track that I was pleasantly surprised with since I usually loathe that street bum junkies voice.

Man I'm on some sour grapes today!

I’m absolutely in love with this album. I literally have not stopped listening to it for a week straight; it’s constantly playing in my apartment, truck and my office. I’ve loved each album from CTS onward and while I dig their pre-CTS stuff, this 70’s heavy prog route is so fucking far up my alley that this album has turned me into a complete fanboy.

I recently got divorced and when I caught some of the lyrics from some of these songs they hit WAY too close to home. When they put “Teardrinker” out, I couldn’t listen to it for a few days because it was too close. Thankfully, I got over that hump of getting over the marriage/my ex and now it’s more therapeutic than tortuous, but it made me do some digging on where they gathered their content from as they’re usually fairly open about it. Turns out Brann, the drummer, ended a relationship (I believe he was married) and man…..I have to assume his marriage ended the same way mine did because of the lyrics.

But this album, holy shit man. It’s very deserving of it’s title. I mean, the last two years of my life were exactly that; Hushed And Grimm, so while I’ve got that personal connection lyrically, musically it’s just more of what I love about them. No one in heavy music plays like those guys. Brent is a fucking BEAST of a guitar player, they’re all fucking great musicians but shit like “The Beast” with that intro?! GTFO. Then it turns into this country and blues song, with Mastodon vocals.

I’ll be seeing them next week at Welcome To Rockville and I can’t fucking wait. Gojira, Mudvayne, Mastodon, Lamb Of God, Metallica (twice) and a shitload of other bands i can’t even remember right now.

Not to get sidetracked here but crazy how music during a divorce can feel like they wrote it for you. Lol. I got divorced in 2017 and just got married again a month ago. Back then, the Genesis album "Invisible Touch" spoke to me. Up to that point, I barely even listened to them.

I hope you came out ok from that period. Trust me, things always get better. I never thought I would ever get married again but it happened.

Sorry to hear about what you’re going through, man. Hope it gets better for you soon.
I’m sure you’ve heard them, but if youre into the 70’s prog thing, check out the last couple of Opeth albums.

Gonna put this on now, I haven’t been into anything they have done since the first couple albums though
