Nice - wish both or at least one of my VSC's had that heel carve!!

Very nice! I really like the inlays....what color did you decide on?

Kinda neat to see it in its infancy stage like this... Cool post.

Hope she plays ace Stevie!! :rawk:

The back of the body is going to be blacked out and the top is going to be a "Mean Green" burst. The maple neck will stay natural with a satin finish. Black on the head stock. EMG pick ups. The fingerboard is ebony with Paua offset block inlays. One thing different on this than David normally does is the fact that I didn't want any body binding or neck binding - much to everyone's dismay. Gonna be a killer axe for drop tunings with the long scale, 24 fret neck.

And yes, the heel carve on David's guitars is the only way to fly for a neck set guitar, as compared to a Les Paul or similar.

I love custom guitars like nothing else. Thanks for posting a build thread.

That thing looks great, I've never seen a McNaught with that headstock. Following the build is awesome too. Excellent selection of timber.

Were you having them make you a Les Paul style one also?

That's called a Viper headstock. As far as I know, this is the only one with it. You can order it reversed too. I was building to VSC's, but decided to have one of the Phoenix's built instead. He's pretty backed up.

I enjoyed that picture show, that is a true cs guitar by the looks of Dave's shop.

Glad to see someone knows how to split a billet of maple and bookmatch it, he should send that pic to xxxxxx.................................

Interesting take on the neckthrough with his body, I like it.

HOw does he do the carve top? I take it by hand grinder?

Congrats, beautiful looking guitar.

Thanks......yes, he hand carves/routes everything. David is a remarkable luthier and will do about anything you want. Most of the guys pretty much stay within the same specs. I wanted one that wasn't going to hang on a wall and just look pretty, but will be used and abused. This is why I left the neck and body binding off and building to be a metal machine. As for his neck thru, yeah, he pretty much takes them all the way through the length of the body for maximum contact. He just started doing those carved heels too. It should be in the paint shed today and be wrapped up next week. He does all his own painting and wiring. Should be cool.....
