i'm following the design of a new amplifier from Montreal from Lapointe amplification..

the guy is the one who designed the backbones used notably by dan mongrain from voivod/martyr

there's not a lot of public information right now but he's in his final prototyping, the clips are quite promising.

i asked a couple question, 100% original design, fx loop, the power section isn't a basic class d amp but something that reacts to speaker load and saturate like a real amp

the clips are what us heard in the room and sound really promising

Definitely sounds promising! Guy is a good player too.

I have been waiting for someone to put love into making a solidstate to the quality of some of the higher boutique amp makers for 7 years

I wonder what mosfets he’s using or if it’s just LND150 based.

Sounds great for solidstate I hope the pricepoint is on par.

This does sound good and I notice the old Randall head sitting on those 412's. Maybe his work is inspired by those and or he has figured out something to get around this old story of mine.

Seems to me like Randall was closer to killer solid state sounds 40 years ago than anyone else has been since. I talked to a guy who was a big wig at Fender who had worked at Randall in the early days and he said there was some sort of components that Randall used that were big and sounded really good tone-wise but as technology had improved they were able to make that part in a smaller, more efficient way and that they just didn't sound as good. He said no one making electronics cared that this tiny niche of users of that part were using this to emulate tube distortion and that everyone else in the electronics world wanted smaller, more efficient, more reliable and cheaper and those parts are long gone.

His feeling was that solid state would never sound as good without those parts, I want to say they were big mosfet's or something. I have no idea if any of this is true. I just plug into and play these things.

I’m always a bit skeptical when someone claims a 100% original design. Technically you can change 1 component and its original.
