So my good friend CLP45 was VERY kind and sent me a new pickup to try that he had laying around. A Wolftones Timbrewolf. This went into my Epiphone LP Custom (pic attached) bridge position replacing a Duncan Distortion SH-6. This was also to compare to my current Gibson LP Classic with Burstbucker 61, which has been my main guitar for about 3 years now since I bought it in 2020.
Started the night by plugging my LP Classic into my rig (Fractal FX-8 in 4CM with Splawn Nitro).. and sounded great as usual. always loved the sound I'd get out of that combo and has been my #1 setup.... until I plugged the Epi LP Custom into the rig and the rest was history.
I've always been a believer that pickups make a difference in some way, shape or form. But never imagined I'd hear this much of a difference. The sound/tone pretty much stepped up by 2-3 levels in a positive way. The lows were fuller, highs were clearer and cutting but not harsh, mids were full. The rest of the 3 1/2 - 4 hours band jam, the LP Classic sat on the guitar stand and the Epi LP got played ALL evening long.. even got retuned to drop D, Eb and even 1/2 step down Eb to C#.. it just sounded SO good.
CLP45 is also sending me a Marshallhead neck pickup to try in this guitar as well... very excited for that.
Wolftones Timbrewolf, highly recommended pickup.
Will try to record some audio/video showing the difference between the Burstbucker 61 and Wolftones.
Cheers
