Look for a deal on a Peavey classic 50/50. They are usually about $350, at least that is what I paid for the two that I have owned. Having the presence, and resonance is really nice, and so far this is the best sounding setup I have had. I started with a Mesa 50/50, it sucked, then the power section of my wife's ss bass amp, much better, and now this just kills!!!

I dont think its worth it for me to spend that much when its not really what I want. If I end up going tube, Ill probably be getting a VHT 2502.

+1 on the Peavey 50/50 for a killer tube power amp on a budget(any budget as far as i'm concerned). If your lucky, you can sometimes find them cheaper. I sold mine to a fellow RTer for $225 shipped in late December. Lot of features on that amp and it sounds great. Just a thought.

That does sound good, from what I can tell, but its hard to tell based on this type of video how much different it would sound. Honestly, for now, the weight and low maintenance of SS has me good. If I coulda easily found the peavey for 225, then I might have gone with that. My budget for a power amp was under 300 for now, and Ive been happy with my decision. I dont see the point in going crazy to try to find one of these when I a) dont have any money to spend on it now, b) am perfectly happy with the SLA, and c) its not really what I want.

Points A,B and C dictate anything and everything I purchase.
