Hi brother in metal ! How does the Myasnikov compare to the fish ? I'm chasing RIP tones too, but also Slayer's Divine Intervention tone. King and Hanneman used a Fish with a purple/pink 2150 live and in the studio. Bogner Fish was not released yet neither when RIP was produced nor when the Clash of the titans or Oxidation of the nations tours were taking place. My Marshall KK is perfect, yet I'm about to get a VHT2902 and it would be nice to know if the Myasnikov Fish is fine for highgain purposes. If it's close enough to your Bogner Fish then I might I pick one instead of the Superlead.
Cheers.

I believe Slayer's Bogner/VHT rack accounted for about 25% of their tone in that era. They blended it in at the soundboard with their usual JCM800s. Also around this time the 800s were modded (don't know by who), then quickly brought back to stock because they didn't like the results. They played one or two shows with the rack setups only, forgoing the JCM800s and hated it so much that they had their 800s shipped to the next show in order to reintegrate into the setup. The rack remained just to fill out the tone a little.

As far as Megadeth I really like the RIP tone as it appears on the record. The RIP demo tracks and live tone on that tour was awful IMO. So thin and castrated ! Mustard-stain preferred one particular, semi-blown not so common 50W Celestion to record in the studio in this era as well.

I think you are right about the blending thing. I got many Bootleg DVDs from the Divine Intourvention tour and I managed to see a couple Marshall 800s along the VHT/Bogner racks. I have also heard that king thought that the Fish/2150 didn't react the same as his 800s and didn't bring enough compression. Anyway, I hope that Myasnikov take on the fish is nice, otherwise the Superlead might be a better option cause I came across raving reviews.

As for Megadeth, and according to Friedman, Rust In peace studio tone was mainly a boosted 800s.

I don't have the myasnikov fish brown channel pre.
The super lead is not really like the fish brown though I can tell you that.
Rust in peace is bogner triple giant sharp.
Cantrell fish is shark modified to be triple giant sharp, but not exactly the same circuit.

Yes indeed it was the Triple giant.
Do you find that the Myasnikov is pretty close to the Fish strato channel ?

Also do you think a Maysnikov brown pre could be close enough to Bogner's ?

I would imagine that the myasnikov pre has the same circuit as the fish brown. You should talk to the guy he can do whatever you want.

As far as my pre goes it is fast becoming my favorite, the sound and feel paired with the 2150 is exactly what I wanted.

Gary, let's get back to the blown 50w...never heard that before and I'm a huge old school mega d fan from way back.

Let me correct that comment. He used various cabs, some of which definitely had old 50 watters. I know of at least two different 50w Celestion models from the 80's. He had one particular cab with one speaker that was "fucked up" but sounded great mic'd up. I'm not sure if that one was the 50w. Also if you read the linear notes to Peace Sells they list the equipment & during that era (and possibly beyond ?) they used some custom made cabinets. The name escapes me right now.

There are a few in the shops in Tokyo that I saw in the last few months. Asking around $2k

Got a superlead from him, and it sounds great - really think about getting the CCV.

Here´s a demo I did for him on the Superlead:
