Received delivery of my Groove Tubes Trio Pre yesterday. This will become my Clean/Crunch Channel for the Cornford Mk50H (the GT and Cornford Pres switched via Rack). Actually I might also use the GTs Scream channel after all, let's see how it gels in with the Cornford.

Today I changed some glass, the clean channel goes Sylvania NOS 12AX7 now and the Mean through a Mullard UK NOS 12AX7, the Scream channel has a 12AU7 instead of 12AX7 in V1 now.

Here is a clip of all three channels of the GT Pre, through the Cornford Power Stage. There is also a Korg DL8000R involved.

Very cool. I was looking at these once to get a good clean channel and switch between it and my mp-1 with an a/b switch. I never like the clean on the mp-1. Now I have a mak4 so I don't need either. :D Are you going to continue to run it through the power section of the cornford or get a seperate power amp?

I'm gonna stay mono for now, so just switching this and the Cornford internal preamp both into the power section of the head.

If I run into a nice HH poweramp though ... who knows :D

Not for over a decade! Try Gene ('guitarslinger'), as he still owns one and swears by it.

I do remember lovin' the mid gain tones in that pre though...

I tried doing this with an A/B switch but if I had the external preamp going into the effects return on the head, I got nothing from the heads preamp section. Have you tried it like that? I was using a Bogner Duende head.

Very nice Gary quotes at the end.
Clean sounds nice, the rest a bit "old fashioned", or were you looking for those sounds?

I am gonna use a looper and switch in and out the preamps, so both the In and the Out will be switched. I don't think there'll be a use for running both in series, but hey, who knows :)

Yeah in fact I like old school. Modern mid scooped stuff is not for me. I like mids and I like it open and uncompressed. But in fact, the Ch3 is just a bonus, I got the preamp mainly for cleans and a bit of hairy cleans.

And yeah, Gary ... oh man I cannot even tell. I know you're a lizzy fan, so probably you understand. He's always been my hero since the mid 80s when I discovered him (when I was 16ish)...

Got it pretty well dialed in now.

I found some amazing, super tight and crunchy downtuned chugga tones in Ch3 - amazing cut and still smooth, very tight lowend.

Awesome cleans à la Chris Rea, amazing Crunch à la Pink's "Sober", amazing chugga à la KSE! Wow.

Monday my 4x looper for the rack comes and I'll rig it all up. It's gonna be a pretty complex rig with versatile and deep tones.
