Got this for cheap recently. Near mint XLT model.
V30's, metal grill protector with black cloth behind it. This is Randall's top tier cab, and it's build and sound prove it. The other XL models in this line don't come close to this one
Stands shoulder to shoulder next to my Mesa Trad. size. A little more sizzle (Chinese V30s), but just as much thump and tightness.

I also got this sweet LTD EC-500 a few weeks ago on the used market. My first new guitar in like, 8 years. Loving it. All mahogany body, top & neck w/ 81/60 set. (May get an 85 for the bridge instead)

Oh yeah thanks, it's really great.
This cab handles EXTREME volume really well.
Sometimes V30 cabs can get cloudy in a wash of lows and mids when blaring super loudly. But this thing stays tight and focused.

I removed a handle to take a look inside and found that it has a center horizontal ply divider.
Essentially two 2x12's I guess then. Must be why it sounds so tight and clear, because it's not getting overwhelmed. I was a little concerned, but it doesn't sound any smaller and there is no shortage of lows or thump. Just extra tightness and quick response. Sounds great with all my amps too, which is a bonus.

I used to have one of those cabs and I truely regret selling it. Sounded and looked great.

You mention the compartment in the cab, separating to the two sides, which got me thinking about something I was going to do, but got around to - and that was to mic up the back of a 412 cab to see what comes off the back of the speakers. I read that Page, back in the day of open back cabs, used to capture the Echoplex wet stuff from in front of the cabinet and behind. Also, I know that Munkey of Korn has had mics fitted inside the back end of his 412 Mesa cabs. One would have to think you could capture some very interesting audio from behind the speakers. I was thinking about taking one of my cabs and fix a mic mount to the inside of the back and run an XLR through the jack plate or fix an XLR connection to the plate and find out what goes on back there.

That would be very interesting. This cab actually has the top and bottom speakers separated, not the two sides, like Road king cab.
So with that, a mic mount could easily be placed on the interior middle "divider". I guess the result would more of ambient nature as opposed to a direct one when having a mic in front of the cone. I'd like to hear about if you try it that's for sure.

I also use a Randall XLT cab with my ENGL Powerball. I think they are one of the most underrated cabs on the market. Solid construction and they look bad-ass with the metal grille. Because people associate Randall with inexpensive solid state amps, these tend to fly under the radar and you can pick them up pretty cheap, even though they are over $900 new, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Can't beat Ltds for value in great looking, great playing guitars! I've owned TEN of 'em! SEVEN of those were the EC models (2-EC1000s, 4-EC400ATs, and my current EC600 Gus G). The Gus G, along with my pair of ESP Eclipses is pretty much all I have been playing for the past couple of years. Oh... I did pick up a Schecter Damien Elite 7 string a few weeks ago because I'm in a metal band right now -- and I really dig it. But it still doesn't get any better than the ESP/Ltds. In fact, I'd love to pick-up a white EC-407 at some point in the not too distant future and would've picked one of those up instead of the Schecter if there'd have been one at my local dealer at the time.

Correctamundo! I'm late to the party, but it's a privileged few who know about these great boxes.
Got it for $400, but I sold a few pedals that I don't use anymore for $200 the week prior.
So only 2 hundy out of pocket for this badass cab.

Man, all I play are LTD's now. I love sub 1K guitars, and these are king of that crowd for sure.
Got 11-52's on the EC tuned to drop D down a 1/2 step. Killer!

I got one on ebay for $300 one time, but it was pickup only. I had to drive 3 hours to get it. When I get there, the dude says I can have his other matching cab for $100 more. $400 total for two sweet Randall XLT cabs.

Those were my 2nd and 3rd XLT cabs. My first I bought when I had my Randall Cyclone. Sold the Cyclone and now and ENGL Powerball sits atop it. For whatever reason, I thought I needed a full stack and bought the others. I ended up selling the other cab to my buddy. I'd love to get a matching ENGL cab, but I can't justify selling the Randall. I would maybe get $400 for it. I would have to be goofy to sell it and then pay 3 times as much for a cab that I can't really hear a major difference on.

Sweet looking cab!!!
Gonna have to keep an eye out for one of these

So, is there a regular old grill cloth behind the metal?

Yup, there sure is. Similar to the Marshall & Mesa black jute. Maybe just a tad thinner weave.

Excellent specimen Snowblind!
And I absolutely agree with your logic. You are not losing out on anything by sticking with the XLT!

Randall cabs are my favorite for metal. My buddy has 2 full stacks of the Warhead cabs and they crush with almost any high gainer hooked up. The warhead amps were garbage but those oversized cabs with the 2x15 bottom are killer. Yours is a little more rare as well since they made very few of the angled XL's iirc.

Ahhhh...the joy of somewhat new V30's.
I was told this cab got some live stage play time. But I think they still need some work.

The wife and baby are gone for the weekend so I've really been punishing them, with the Soldano, Pittbull and 6505 mainly.
Holy hell it's loud over here. Chunk and thump city.
