So i am at a delema rightnow i own a 2003 triple rectifier and a older signature 5150. I have been thinking about gettin one of the new dual rectifiers for a while but i love the 5150 and the triples not bad but its gonna get sold. My band plays punk rock/metal kind of like a day to remember who i think uses 5150s and dual rectifiers. We have three guitarists one is using the new tubed Line6 Mark2 thats the singer and the lead guitarist is using a peavey triple x. Soo any comments or suggestions would be helpful

5150 would probably suit your live and studio mix better. Considering your other guitarist uses the XXX.

Honestly, the reborn will be almost identical to your 2003 tonally. More options and better loop though.

Personally, I'd keep the triple and have Jerry at FJA or Dave Friedman or a number of other builders here (Rhodes, Trace, dave at baron, Jerry from Surreal, etc) mod it for you.

modded recto's are the shit!

IMO, the money you'll dish out to get the reborn will not be worth it. it has some cool improvements, but the old ones are a great bang for the buck.
and you can never go wrong with a 5150

I agree. I spent a lot of time with my modified recto and when I put the Reborn through its paces, it just reminded me what I don't like about stock 3 channel rectifiers. In fact, I found that an older 3 channel with better glass sounds a lot better than the Reborn with stock tubes. Spend a little on a mod, and you'll have a recto that walks all over a stock 3 channel or Reborn.

5150s in stock form are cool, but I've never really loved them. I like the III a lot more.

hmmm modding it seems the way togo modding both seems the way togo actually lol

Yeah talking to fjA mods probably gonna take back the 5150 the moo dded triple willbe awesome

I had a 2003 and a Reborn. The Reborn has a better clean and the Raw is great but the Modern and Vintage were similar. In the end, I think the Rectover, Tremoverb, Electradyne and Royal are the best Mesas.

the best modded recto tones i have ever heard were from a rhodes modded recto. the fja sounded good too, but the rhodes amp was insane

I guess I'm odd man out. I would try to find a used "Reborn" Dual Rectifier.

The new multiwatt recto is tighter and less fizzy than the older 3-channel rectos. Modding your existing amp could be hit or miss, and by the time you're done with it, it would be the cost of a used multiwatt anyhow.

The 5150 is cool, but has very limited features. If you only need the one sound the 5150 can provide, it might be the best choice. I'm sticking with my new multiwatt recto. :)
