New recording platform!!

So I finally took the plunge and upgrading my new home studio! Was running an old Roland Vs recorder.. Just purchased an Apollo x8p-Presonus studio 1 4.5- getting an UA Ox, and a MacBook pro!! I am freaking out both with excitement and not knowing what the frick I'm doing!! lol.... Is this going to be doable?

Yeah, but the plugins set you back, whereas other DAW's tend to include everything you need, albeit at lower quality levels than the purchased add-ons Luna offers.

The few freebies included in the package are simply there to deflect the criticism that it doesn't come with anything IMHO.

Still, as you said, it's freee for the OP so he's got nothing to lose... except the weight of his wallet if he gets sucked into purchasing plugins that IMHO should've been included in the first place.

I love Reaper. Slam me if you want. Also izotope has a lot of good free plug ins if you sign up for their news letter. Every month or so there is something good.

wouldn't slam anyone for using what works for them....whatever works...and most do just fine.

Ywah. It's pretty solid too IMO. I had pro tools for a year and I think Reaper is 95% there.

But do check out the izotope free plug ins. They y as usually put up one or two free ones a month.

Yes, very doable. That is an awesome start. Tons of YouTube videos and websites to get going or do you already have an idea to get going?

Enjoy the x8p! I've had mine for a year now and it is a great unit! I am frequently recording drums with my band so the extra inputs are great to have without having to carry anything around. The plugins are fabulous!

I have been watching a lot of videos. Still waiting on my mac to get started. Just seems so daunting! Hopefully Sweetwater will make sure I can at least get started.... Never owned a mac either. I did two cds with the Roland so I know how to get good sounds. Hopefully this raises the bar in a huge way. The editing capabilities will be awesome to I am sure! Wish me luck!

Cool. If you’ve never used a Mac, I’d recommend watching a few videos just on that. It’s simple, just different. If you’re familiar with Windows, there are plenty of videos explaining the Mac coming from Windows.
