That was actually pretty good. Almost in the vein of a Badlands style riff, very cool I like it. Sounds like he is back to even less gain than he was using on Dusk. Solo sounds great he cut off his final ascending scale far too soon, damn it was getting good. Some good playing a riffing this time around I may actually buy it, I can only hope the other tunes get better than this one.

The singer still doesn't compare to Gillen but I don't think anyone ever will.

Yeah I'm not a Badlands fan at all.................................................... :D

You got that right! Ray Gillen is probably my alltime favorite rock/metal singer.

Why compare Darren to Ray ? Badlands disbanded in `93

Thanks for sharing !
I have always thought Jake was a way underrated player !
He is such a groove , and feel player .
His vibrato is killer !
I dig this tune, the singer sounds great !
Long live rock n roll !

It's a good blues song...Not super into the song, but the amount of leads make up for it. Some tasty Jake Lead tone.

Really excited about this release!! I've got a friend that is/was involved with the band and the recording and he sent me this to share(not sure how to post pics so gonna try to copy from the pic and type it out.

Rhythm parts were played on a 69 les Paul into a 1974 50 watt Marshall head. Doubled parts were through an old silvertone twin twelve. Chorus was an old boss/Roland ce-1. Solos were done on the white charvel into an Orange 40th anniversary 50w. All were run into a 4x12 cabinet with 25w greenbacks. Way is an Arteffect Bonnie Wah built with NOS components(tropical caps etc) to the original Clyde specs. Everything was buffered through a Boss tuner.

Looking forward to hearing the rest for sure. I think Jake has the whole package with this band and they're gonna be killer live. I know there's been some grief given over the use of a bunch of different singers, but I really think with Darren involved through the whole process(he was an afterthought on the first RDC release) he's gonna shine on Patina. Can't wait to hear the whole thing!!

Thanks for sharing. I had listened to the song a couple of times now and it's definitely better that his last album. Looking forward to listening to the whole album. This might be old but check out his solo to the song below starting at 2:30.

The mouth cigarette is gay, but I like this song more than anything on the first RDC. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

If I were a betting man, I would bet that he was likely back boosting with an OD-1 for his vintage gain sounds. Leads were good, not a huge fan of Darren but I can live with it.

Am I the only one who thinks Jake completely ruined that tune? Could have been a good jam , but his playing is mediocre at best. I LOVE the old Badlands stuff , but this is laughable in comparison

I think saying he ruined the song is a stretch and unfair. Its obvious Jake is not going to return to Badlands era shredding and am not sure he even needs to. Like I said in my original post... just glad to see Jake still making an effort to make music after basically disappearing all those years. Its obvious the choices he made in life up to this point have taken its tole on him. As long as he is willing to try I for one will support his efforts.

I think these are both a bit of a stretch but closer to the way I felt when I first watched the video. I decided to wait a day and then only listen...not watch...and I liked it way better. And this is coming from a smoker (until about a month ago but I'm not soap-boxy about cigs). I thought Jake was one of THE coolest looking guitar players ever when the videos for BATM came out but the cig and sumo-doo didn't do the video any favors imo. Still love the dude's catalog though and he'll always be a old fave of mine.

EDIT: And I'm a distortion whore. Crank the gain imo.

I absolutely love this! I’m so glad Jake rocks again. Looking forward to hear the rest. Honestly I seem to have a very different taste from some of you ?. I couldn’t be happier. Well ok a second BATM would do that ?

Thanks for sharing. Would never have guessed the les Paul. But seriously amazing mid gain tone!

My pleasure. I'm really digging this, and I get the comments that it's different, but this is 100% jake and the guys. This is where his head and playing are at right now. I listened to the first cd earlier and you can just tell, someone else was driving that. Patina is 100% Jake in charge and doing what he wants to hear. And I love it so far!!

sounds good, but could have done without the Eddie Money with a cig in his mouth shtick

Is the singer the guy who Holmes used in farmkos?

I`m not any help there but Darren sang on the first RDC album in 2014 , he sang on the songs that didn`t have a guest singer

In case you didnt know... Darren Smith is also the drummer in a great band called Harem Scarem:

No shit! I didn't know he was in harem scarem. That said, that guitar player is a monster but the vocals on this tune sound poppy and like Christian rock.
