So I traded my Mesa Boogie MKIV (love that amp) for a Friedman PT-20.

Now I'm typically a 100, 120, 150 watt guy but I had to try this thing out.
I know it's all been said about Dave Friedman before, but this guy is amazing. I'm getting some of the best Marshall tones I've ever had. And.....I'm not sure how he does it, but this thing is LOUD. I've never liked EL84's, but I could care less what's in the thing, it sounds amazing.

I've also been wanting a 4x12. I've had many over the years but have been using 2x12's for the last decade or so. NOTHING sounds like a 4x12. So I got on local CL and asked a guy if he was interested in trading. I traded two (2) pedals I don't use for the Marshall cab! The 75's are ok, but I have a question/comment. I was thinking about putting a couple 65w Creambacks in an x-pattern. That way I could mic the Creamback on the bottom at gigs. Thoughts?

Anyway, I couldn't be happier. D. Friedman is incredible.

By the way, with a twist of the volume knob on the guitar the PT-20 is full-on wall of gain down to glassy cleans. The best I've ever seen an amp clean up.

I think part of that may be the tubes the guy put in it. I'm not sure what they are (some high end thing) but he said they were well over $200. That's a lot for this little thing.

I've got a bad feeling that I'm going to have to play a BE or one of the signature Friedman's in the near future. That could really hurt!

Sounds like a great little amp. I've heard nothing but great things about the Friedman amps. Runt, BE, HBE, Dirty Shirley....hell, they all get rave reviews. But really what I want to say is...

F*** Photobucket.

The PT was my first Friedman. Great little amp. If you ever get to feeling like you want more thump in a 20-watter than the Taco delivers, try the Mini Shirley. It's the biggest sounding lunchbox that's ever been in the man cave. I had a store demo for a week or so. I've also had a Smallbox, Dirty Shirley (40) and currently have a BE100. Pound for pound, none of Dave's amps can spank the Mini Shirley. The Runts are awesome too. Would like to get my hands on a Buxom Betty someday as well... though no OD tones there.

Don't do it! Unless your wallet is feeling brave   I too have a PT20 and have been rocking that for almost 2 years now... but after sampling a buddy's JJ100 it just messed me up... So I ordered a Buttterlax from the local shop lol. They order directly from Friedman and I guess they were sold out so they said it will take 2 to 3 weeks to build. It is been a long 2 weeks so far ;)

How the PT-20 compares to the mini jubile?
Too bad the PT doesn't run on EL34's like the mini Jubilee.

Doesn't matter. What Dave can do with EL84s in a low watt amp will make you think it's 34s.

Yup. The Mini Shirley sounds beefy and throaty, but clear and articulate like EL34s to me. Many EL84 based amps that I've had sound dark and muddy, but not the Friedmans. Before playing Dave's EL84 amps, I preferred 6V6s.

Once my Butterlax comes I was thinking of selling my taco and getting a mini dirty shirley... I think that thing sounds amazing.. very beefy indeed.

Sorry, it didn't fool me.

Last nights rehearsal rig. PT-20, Hermida ported 2x12 with Vintage 30's and Aiken Gold Brick.
Sounded killer.
Man, I love this rig.

I'll tell you the PT-20 LOVES a Dimarzio Super Distortion. Harmonics and overtones just fly off the guitar with this rig.

Photobucket no longer allows 3rd party embedding on free accounts. It's destroying some forums...

Steve

Is there a free solution to the image hosting?
I would never pay photobucket for anything. That is one of the slowest, add riddled sites I've ever seen.

I'm shocked you moved your MKIV. I thought it would go to the grave with you!  Mine got some attention today after having spent so much time with my BE100 and Splawn QR. now I'm toying with the idea of moving it as I'm finding it doesn't really fit me anymore.
