and please post clips. Even if they're done with a crappy camcorder mic  Congrats on what I'm sure is a killer amp.

I am gonna sweet talk a friend into helping me with some studio clips and probably do some camcorder clips in the meantime.

Congrats, I love the vintage less compressed tone from that amp but it can still get way nasty but with some string articulation

Cool. Did you go with the vintage or modern version?

Was it you that asked me this same question on my youtube site? Doug didn't mention to me that there were two "versions," he just said that each amp is built to the customers specs/requirements/wants.

No, it wasn't me. It's mentioned on the website. I emailed him today and he said the "modern" one has 2x6550's and is rated at 70 watts.

Funny, I didn't look at his site. I wonder which one I played?

You played the vintage version. Laura's amp is higher gain,
tighter, and more saturated.
Here's a bad low volume 12am clip I did over the weekend

my left stereo buss on my DAW is clipping.
But, listen past this to the power cords
when I play them, you'll hear the growl/saturation
difference. Her's is 70watts.
Doug
PS, the background solo crap in this were scratch
tracks I forgot were on...

Congrats!

Someday, I will have/need to play this!

Can't wait for clips!

one is right above your post

I will post some pics later. Our practice room is in shambles as we have yet to put gear back after a show Friday.

My initial thoughts that I posted yesterday on HC...

I spent some quality time with the Ultra today. I tried different settings, different speakers/cabs, boosted and un-boosted. My ears hate me because I jammed this thing for hours and I played it loud. It sounds great at low volume. As you turn it up, it really opens up. There is crunch, clarity and saturation. I prefer it boosted through with my Manowar/Gov loaded 4x12. I have yet to try it with my V30/Reaper loaded Mesa 4x12. This is not buzzsaw gain with flubby low end. This is crunch, clarity and saturation with tone for days. Fantastic sounding amp and pretty easy to dial in. I could get great rock, stoner and old school metal and hardcore tones out of the Ultra too. Loud as hell too! I will probably be deaf by the end of the weekend. I also love the fact that when I want/need new power tubes, I can bias the amp without taking it out of the head shell.

I am hoping to wire up the Mesa 4x12 today and try that out.

Sorry for not updating. I have been jamming on the Rocca for a few weeks now. I posted some crappy clips that I made on HC a few weeks ago. The Ultra is my favorite amp that I own. I just spent some time deafening myself since my husband took my kids to piano lessons tonight. I just love this amp. For my style, it really shines when boosted but that is all a matter of opinion. Regardless, there are some great tones to be had with the Ultra and I am really glad that I bought this amp from Doug! I have been working on selling a bunch of things since this purchase as there is more gear that I own that won't be used now. Thanks again Doug. I am deaf and happy! :worship: :rawk:

So doug, how does this differ from your HG series?

More modern sounding than an HG, but there are a few
different variations I can build depending on the player.
Laura wanted mean, nasty, kickass and slap
your face after. Thats what I built her
based on what she described.
She put a lot of emphases on the type of saturation,
clarity, gain, and air hitting the back of her leg.

It has a tight low end without being woofy like some other high gainers. The pick sensitivity is nice. Tons of clarity but not to the point that you get feedback if you hit a bad note. Also, this is a very loud 70 watts!
