Metallic has their past success to lean on, they wrote better songs than bands like Testament. But right now, Testament fucking slaughters Metallica in a bad way. And Skolnick is just a monster player. I always wished he was in Metallica. Imagine how much better Metallica would be without hearing the same stupid wah drenched out of key turkey fight solo in every song.

While i am with you on Kirk's status as a lead player today, back then he was pretty rockin IMO, lot of memorable solos up till the black album, after that well, its been debated a million times already. Skolnick is technically more advanced that for sure, but Kirk was a perfect fit for Tallica. To bad it went to shit. But for the past couple years i think they upped it a bit, solos are in time and on key, at least........lol

Been listening to Testament since the late 80's!!! They're one of the thrash greats.

There first album was killer, as was new order and practice. Then when Cowboys from hell came out, i was all over that and felt Testaments sound was getting to melodic and softer so i neglected them a little. BUT when LOW hit  , i got right back in and never looked back, every album after that has been stelar.

So my 2 least favorite albums where the ritual and souls of black. I enjoyed them though but not like the rest.

Agreed.

I listened to their early stuff and was really into that but then shifted gears and got into Death, Sepultura Obituary at that point. Dark roots was good stuff so I'm stoked to hear their upcoming album.

On a side note, just bought tickets to slayer, anthrax and death angel  Can't wait! Slayer's stuff after seasons lost most of my interest, but its still slayer, and they always play a bunch of south of heaven, reign in blood, and seasons shit in their sets.

Hell Awaits rules :rawk:

Lol....... We got the same tastes here man, feel the same way about Slayer. Oh and.......... We just bought me and a bunch of friends, tickets for Slayer also. Ha ha. But we rented a limo for the trip round trip. About a two hour drive to Montreal!!!!!!

Hell awaits for sure that night man.........

Hell yeah brother! Sounds like your in for a helluv a good time!!!

Forgot to add, i was also way into Death and Sepultura. Arise was killer.

Ok gotta run.

Arise was awesome. I saw them in Philly on their Beneath the Remains tour and it stuck with me. That album just gets it goin!

Just rocked some Death today from the Leprosy, Human, Spiritual Healing, Individual thought patterns, and Symbolic albums!

Love me some Death

Just wanted to add that while Skolnick is a undoubtfully a monster player, Eric always tends to get too little attention and appreciation. His rhythm work is what makes Testament and it has been impecable over the years.

All great albums. Still listen to them all the time.

And for Testament, I liked formation better than dark roots but both kickass albums. Can't wait for the new one. The album cover is also killer!

I always look forward to new Testament but this one's got me worried because they said the making of it was very rushed. Souls of Black was rushed and that turned out terrible.

You bet Eric is underated, he has been in my top 3 rhythm players, toss up with Dime and Jaymz. He is one hell of a player/composer. But lets not forget his solo skills either, a very melodic and soulfull player. Oh, and he can shred too!!!!!!

This album will kill. Can't wait.

Yeah but that was long ago, this will be different. I am sure.

Lets keep our spirits up and positive

I bought Megadeth and Anthrax and will be buying Metallica and Testament. All of MY bands kick the living crap out of most of the music out there these days (I know there are some great bands out there though).

Back on topic, I remember hearing Testament's "Trial By Fire" and being blown away. I even loved "Souls of Black" when I heard it and it was way slower paced than a lot of their earlier stuff. Great band. I know people say they don't get the respect they deserve but they do get the respect from the fans and bands who know what they are about.

Yup, OUR bands do kick it, they worked their asses off to get where they are today. No overnight sensations here man.

Souls was a great album also, but like you say it was slower paced and i found it very melodic. But great harmonys and crazy good solo work from Alex on there. They do have the respect, but they deserve way more recognition from the rest of the world. My dad should know who Testament is as he knows Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, Pantera...... But he does not. And i was listening to all these bands growing up, all equally. That's what i was meaning by the lack of respect.

Does anybody remember falling a sleep to Hypnosis after a big one? LOL. I don't think i ever made it to the end. Ha ha, i've been listening to metal when going to bed since i was around 10, still do to this day.

Ahhh, the memories.

10...9...8...7...6...6...6............Bowwwwwwwwww.

Damn, Demonic was a fuckin great album too. Heavy as fuck.

Just thought i'd share.

I really liked his Death metal vocal approach on that one, was kinda experimental for them. I really like his voice today, its like a mix of the old and the new. Not like some other bands i know...... :gethim:

In my earlier days, Testament was a huge influence... and then I joined a somewhat punk kind of band with no metal solos or complex rhythms... now I suck.

In the meantime, i'll just leave this here

like

I am a bit concerned with the stuff I have been reading from Chuck about brotherhood....sounds like he (and the rest of the band) was a bit pissed that Eric did all the writing. I get the feeling this album might be one of those that in a few years they look back and say it missed the mark. I hope not but usually when there are negative comments from some of the members before it comes out then things sound a bit off

Man, LOW has some wicked songs, damn, every song on that album is awesome. Lead work is OVER THE WALL too, Murphy is on fire on that album. Trail of tears has some melodic metal phrasing like i never heard, just so beautiful to listen too.

Bros. Chuck is doing the old vocals again. I didn't think he had it in him anymore but he did the death vocals at the end of the song. Fuck yeah.

This song sounds similar to dark roots production wise but the music is even heavier. Glad to hear this, must buy.
