I used to own a UL and what I liked the Eq for was a lead boost for more mids and volume. I never used it to shape the basic sound as the amp has plenty of what you need without it. Plus you can always throw an EQ in the loop. I do remember though that a cool feature mine had was an assignable GEQ (footswitch) so if you wanted to have the rhythm and lead channels sound quite different you could have the EQ turn on/off automatically on a channel change.
yes my favorite amp...got mine from the Hoff.....definitely get some kt88's there...i have found sovtek to sound and feel the best, did not like the penta labs or winged C offerings.....also sweet move on the tungsol in V1...i do that in mine, tungsol v1 ruby selected chinese the rest, only that in the last position(driver) i use an NOS Mullard 12AT7 i got prof tube depot for like 28 bux....
The most important point...PLEASEEEE use eminence speakers with these brand of amps, celestion sound mediocre with them...if you can get the fatbottom that is the best combination ever eminence v12 are nice but believe me the holy grail is just getting it's own fatbottom or deliverance cabinet
The classic is what the CLX is today, it is the SAME amp. VHT/fryette had a little legal dispute with peavey from their classic series line of amps, and had to change its name to something else, and landed on the CLX. The UL/CLX/classic all have the same preamp, but the UL has kt88s as we know...
