Title says it all

Recently aquired a dead mint Vader 4x12. Original speakers were replaced with Celestion Creamback Ceramics.
In a weeks time i'll have an equally mint Framus Cobra with original tubes and no mods, just curious if anyone has tried this set up?

This is my first time spending real big money on a rig and i'm hoping it's going to pay off well. Got the Vader 4x12 for 475$ flat and the Framus for 900$

Do you guys think I made the right decision with this combination? Let me know!

I'll be running it with an Epiphone Wilshire Pro and Epiphone Wilshire Frank Iero custom (limited edition electric green model)

I'm actually planning on grabbing either a Bill Kelliher ESP Eclipse or Sparrowhawk. Maybe an ESP E-II.

Would also love to hear recommendations for pedals!

I play metal but mostly in the styles of Mastodon, Coheed and Cambria, All Shall Perish and etc. . . so I'm really hoping this will be versatile enough

Congrats!

I've heard the Framus stuff is pretty cool, and many seem to rave about those Vader cabs. I bet it's a great sounding rig!

Great prices on both. The Cobra kills, but will suck if not dialed in correctly. Be sure to dime the channel volume. If not, you'll have a fizzy Cobra. They also LOVE to be clean boosted with your favorite OD/TS.

Then there's no reason to read the body of your post, is there?

(j/k)

The " Celestion Creamback Ceramics (Strontium Ferrite)" a.k.a. the "Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 12 65W 8/16 Ohm" are going for on average $155/$145 (new) a pop in today's market. So you're already ahead of this game.

In my experience with these great drivers (and any Celestion drivers), they are very "sweet" for good rock/hard rock and modern blues. You won't find these appealing for modern metal. The Creamback has a familiar woody G12M tone suited for a vintage tone with good low end grunt and a warm vocal mid range crunch. The upper mids don't have that classic spike (well suited for a good tight punch for metal) as do the V30 but is sweet and nicely refined.

If you're so inclined, check out the short "Jeff Austin" description of Ceramic (Strontium Ferrite) verses AlNiCo (Aluminum-Nickel-Cobalt) magnets on the "Ted Weber" site here: Let's Talk Speakers

Good luck!

That’s a great first “big” rig man. Especially for brutal stuff. Also the cobra has a great clean. Between the clean and crunch channel, and a boost pedal, you can cover a lot of ground.

Also, if you don't dig the Creambacks, ditch them for some Greenbacks. That's what came with the Cobra 4x12 cab, and the Cobra is infamous for being finicky about speakers and cabs, and sounding it's best with the matching Cobra cab.

I think you’re gonna like that rig!! I loved my Cobra on the crunch channel and boosted with a Maxon od808. The only reason I moved on from it was the parallel effects loop. Congratulations on a hot fucking rig!!

The OG speakers in those Vader cabs sucked. Creambacks are way more awesome!

Sounds like a badass rig man, I’m sure it’ll sound mean. Please post a review once you have it or let us know how it works out.

I definitely disagree with this. They were custom Legend V12s, which to me, are the only speakers in existence. HA!

But yeah, you will love this rig. Agree with the rest of the comments on the Framus and its pickiness with regard to speakers.

Very nice stack, congrats. That thing is going to crush. Love the Framus Cobra.

So i've had the cab for a while and will be receiving the head tomorrow after I finally pay it off. I'll let you guys know how it sounds!

So far the cab alone has breathed new life into the old Randall RH200SC i've been borrowing. It previously sat on top of an old Behringer oversized cab. I never liked the combo and couldn't really tell which piece was causing the tone I grew to dislike. It was definitely the cab haha.

The Randall still isn't ideal but I can already see a huge improvement. I originally was just going to get the Framus head and keep the Behringer cab to save cash for new pedals or maybe a new guitar or pickups. So glad I got the cab!

Cab/speakers can make/break a setup. At least as important as the amp. 20 yrs ago I had one of those diamond plated recto cabs with a JCM 800....V30s do not mix well with Marshall IMO. Other than Jubilees.
Congrats on the new Rig!

Wait until you hear the difference the Cobra makes! And remember to Dime the channel volumes!

Update.

This thing is beyond amazing! Really surprised that more people don't talk about these amps! I've owned a 6505+ and Blackstar Metal 100 and this thing blows both out of the water.
The only thing i'm having issue with is the perfect mixture of gain and volume to keep it from being too noisy, but honestly once I get a noise gate it'll fix the problem. I'm loving this amp big time and really can't wait to try out other Framus amps!
