So i gave it a second listen,i guess its not so bad. Tattoo grew on me, i suppose this will to.Im just glad my beloved VH is doing something other than counting their millions.

Reminds me of a song on "Women and Children First" but I can't remember which one. I know it is near the end of the album and they all sing this minor key harmonize thing as the song is ending. Not bad but definitely not a "playing the L.A. strip on cocaine" type of song.

In a Simple Rhyme.

Predictably terrible. Van Halen should have stopped making records after VHII.

Take the vocals out and it's a pretty cool, little piece of music. I've definitely heard these riffs hundreds of times...used to collect anything and everything VH.

Interesting. Has potential. Apparently, it's based on another old tune. Did Eddie write anything recently on this cd?

Not sure I agree with the reviewer who said about this tune....

"I'm On Fire 2. Fast paced rocker with classic VH sound. Solo could have come from any of the first 2 albums"

Not quite what I was expecting from that description.
I'm gonna have to agree with you there...

"I'm On Fire 2" -      :hys: :hys: :hys: :hys: :hys: :jerkit: :jerkit: :jerkit:

Now I can't believe one word of that review...

I don't hate it musically (although it's pretty tame), but Dave's voice is shot. It isn't enjoyable to listen to him straining and live it's gonna be horrifying...

I think you are talking about "In A Simple Rhyme". Personally, I think that song is a lot less tame and I like it WAY better...

I'd say after "1984" personally, but for SURE after "Balance" if ya like's ya a little Van Hagar. VHIII is unlistenable without some sort of vocal defeating dealio...

with a better guitar tone.

What does this mean exactly?
That would mean a guitar tone that Jerry enjoys more. :)

Steve

you like eddies current tone??? yuck.. some songs seem like they would benefit from the old tone. just my opinion though.

My thoughts exactly Jerry!

I would listen to a song where ALL the lyrics were "tattoo tattoo", if Ed's guitar tone sounded like it did on any of the first 4 albums!

It's absolutely amazing to me that you guys expect them to be able to sound like they did when they were in their twenties. Hope the wives or girl friends of all you guys who are in your late 30's, 40's, and 50's don't have the same expectation of your performance.

No, I don't like it. And I described what you said perfectly! :D

Yeah, I totally thought "The Wild Life" when I heard it. I don't mind that they are bringing back some of the old stuff but it would be nice to have all new material. I loved the two songs they did back in 96. What would have been cool is if they remixed and remastered all the old demos so we can all have them in great quality. That would have been a cool Deluxe Edition......

Yeah, I noticed that when I listened to the 1984 "Ripley" song, after hearing the new song.

I was thinking, "Now this sounds like VH". Then I listened to the new song again, and realized it was Dave's vocals that made the whole thing sound bad.

I think missing Mike's vocals makes Dave's vocals stand out more, good or bad.
