Interesting. Has potential. Apparently, it's based on another old tune. Did Eddie write anything recently on this cd?

Not sure I agree with the reviewer who said about this tune....

"I'm On Fire 2. Fast paced rocker with classic VH sound. Solo could have come from any of the first 2 albums"

Not quite what I was expecting from that description.

Ill give ya interesting and as far as potential, unless it really heats up and the rock comes blazing in, Im not seeing it.

Im definitely with you on scratching my head over what that reviewer said. I had forgotten all about it until you brought it up and all I can think now after listening is WTF was he thinking/drinking/smoking?

Bad tune? not at all...but it definitely leaves me wanting..

So,for the naysayers....

DLR. Check. Hate it.
Less processed tone. Check. Hate it.
80s songs. Check. Hate it.

I guess you just have to be careful what you wish for. Perhaps some Sammy and more modern tunes would have been better for you.

I dont know Jamie, I dont see where youre coming up with the comparisons, especially the last part. Im ok with the first 2 but for me, theres a certain fire thats missing on the songwriting.

Well, because at least two of these "lack of fire" tunes were written based on stuff back in the 80s.

I'm just yanking chains, because it is ironic so much of what people was wanting is there and they hate it.

I suspect the fire that isn't there that was there when they were 25 probably went away when they turned 50 or so. I'm not entirely sure I understand this anyways. I hear all kinds of cool guitar with energy.

It's cool, you don't have to dig it. I'm enjoying the stuff I've heard so far and it just makes me want to get the cd even more. When the hard stuff kicks on Stay Frosty it makes me want to hear more. Trouble with Never sounds fun too. I'm hearing some rocking stuff. Their doing their own thing and it is working. On the way to work Blood and Fire was stuck in my head. I don't expect anything more than that.

Perhaps it's a matter of expectations? Perhaps not. Not everybody likes the same stuff, but to listen to this stuff and disconnect it from VH is somewhat mysterious. It's VH 2012. I'm into it!

I guess the difference is that you think that because they are giving us reworked versions of old tunes , they are giving us what we want when we speak of wanting old VH, I dont see it that way. Sure, they reworked old tunes but they worked the stuff out of the tunes that made them cool IMHO..

Personally, I dont think that my expectations are extravagant. I see plenty of older guys these days playing with the fire that they had in their hey day.

All that said, Im not hating any of this new VH and Im looking forward to hearing more.

Have you heard Stay Frosty? You can hear most of it in the CSI clip. Totally old school VH in 2012.

Just did and I totally dig it. I can also finally see eye to eye with you on that tune being a 2012 version of what old VH means to me

Yea, somethings better than nothing I s'pose. So far all I hear is happy rock. Theyre not angry enuf yet. To me thats in the lyrics.
These guys are my f'n heroes and I'm hearing a lot of rote ideas and patented stuf that made em famous, nothing new. Maybe thats ok. I was hoping for some edgy nuances that showed theyd sat in a room somewhere an argued out incorporating some new ideas. Eddie stealing old riffs from himself, Dave's spoken word hipster lyrics a little to often, IDK, it just seems too easy an unimaginative from a band bleeding imagination an originality back in da day, IMO...
Its still making me a little sad...

I think some people are going to see they may have spoke too soon by judging this album by Tattoo. I wasn't crazy about Tattoo and it did grow on me but after hearing these I'm super stoked. End all be all VH album? I doubt it but I think it will be something I like better than anything they've done in awhile and yes I think at least for now Ed IS BACK.

Since when were DLR lyrics ever angry?   They've always been a party rock band.

I hear ya bro and while Im not doing back flips, its because of your above statement that I will be forever cautiously optimistic. Stay Frosty did put a smile on my face and has me eager for more..

yeah, that tune has some serious snarl too it... I think that he was talking about that signature DLR attitude whether it be party rock or balls to the wall. More or less, I think Dave brings a bunch of that back in the new stuff...

yea, fair warning, overall was a pretty dark album. my favorite from them for sure

I see my definition of dark album other people's definition are very different.

well, I don't mean every song on it...

"Mean Street" – 5:00
"Dirty Movies" – 4:08
"Sinner's Swing!" – 3:09
"Hear About It Later" – 4:35
"Unchained" – 3:29
"Push Comes To Shove" – 3:49
"So This Is Love?" – 3:06
"Sunday Afternoon in the Park" (Instrumental) – 1:59
"One Foot Out the Door" – 1:58
except for sinner's swing and so this is love, they're all pretty dark imo. even dirty movies at least musically
