You just keep stirring the pot.....
Its the right thing to do!
Damn I love this Wilfred Brimley pic!! :D

Let's not kid ourselves, Mike Anthony was about as integral to VH as Big Al's gong. Great voice, but he didn't write squat, including his lauded vocal harmonies--and everyone knows his "solo spot" is a glorified bathroom break. What I have heard from Wolfgang, albeit very little, has impacted me as a listener and musician far greater than anything MA has done his whole career. He's one lucky dude that he had a 30 year ride with one of the greatest American rock bands of all time. Don't get me wrong, MA seems like a genuine human being--but Michael Anthony is happy in Chickenfoot, so why rehash this whole debacle?

Ah, I just thought it funny. Wolfie does a good enough job. Just not as much bottom end and balls than MA had though.

Steve

What exactly is everyone hearing from Wolfgang? I seriously don't hear anything. I mean, if his last name wasn't Van Halen, would you still give a shit? What exactly has he done except pop out of Val? I mean, he can play bass and guitar like a bazillion other people, but what has he done that is special? I don't hear shit in any of these tracks that makes even EVH or DLR sound good, let alone WOLFGANG. I just don't get WTF you people are hearing. Is he playing his parts with his family jewels? Now that would be impressive.

Mailman, could this possibly be a processed picture of YOU when you become a blue hair?

I saw VH last year and was far from impressed and did not feel I got my money's worth. I have seen Van Halen three times with Anthony. His bass lines are much more precise and space with the drummer much better. Tighter and more articulate. Wolfie's lines were blurry and lacked definition live. He also had the stage presence of a stick. Yeah he did a good job for a kid. No comparison. I love Eddie but the new Van Halen sucks. I respect them for riding it out to make money and have some fun but its time to hang it up. That show last year  Rush and U2 destroyed them. Got my money's worth there and I am not even a big U2 fan. And David should come out of the closet. We all know he's gay. :gay:

Let us know when you decide to "hang it up" for far, far, far less than them.

Think about it like this, he's in his first band ,playing with world famous professional musicians, and he's holding his own. I don't know if a kid his age and under those circumstances could do the same without choking. There could be someone out there that could possibly do the same , but we are talking about about Wolfie here.If you can't see at least that than i don't know what to tell ya.  . To each his own.

Age is not relevent here. MA was playing bass at the same age. I'm in the MA camp. Wolfgang has no outstanding atributes and as mentioned has the stage presence of a broomstick, even that statement is a little generous.

I would like to see MA back in Van Halen, regardless of how well Wolfie fills in, cause that is all he is doing in my mind is filling in.

I am glad MA is doing well with Chickenfoot. I hope this current Van Halen lineup will be able to get to that level....

Im laughing at this   are you serious??

I will say that this is the only New VH thread that didn't make my ears bleed...yet. Thanks Steve.

Oddly, Michael Anthony is more popular now that he isn't in VH than he was when he was in VH. Unfortunately for him, when all the butthurt is over about the new VH cd, he'll go back to being regular old Michael Anthony....that guy that played bass and backups vocals for Van Halen.

I can only hope to look that good. ;)
Hit 41 this year....so not to far off from Hangin with Brimley eating Quaker Oats. :D

The fact that there is even a Michael vs. Wolfgang debate is ridiculous. EVH and AVH hold down the rhythm in that band. And according to them, neither has ever had any bass in their monitors. The bass was there to fill things out and to have something for ed to solo over   Nobody listens to Van Halen because of the awesome bass playing...

Regardless of whether or not Wolfgang is a better bass player than Michael, I prefer the pocket of AVH and MA over AVH and WVH.

I've never seen Van Halen live with DLR and have tickets for the Pittsburgh show in March. Before I die, I want to see him back with the band. Additionally, I was 13 years old when the last album with DLR on it came out so I am overjoyed that a new album will be out in a week or so.

As far as Wolfgang goes, I think his dad would be dead right now if it were not for him coming into the band. Eddie was getting really bad (especially around the time of Dimebag's funeral, etc.) and looked like a homeless person. I think because there was this whole "Ed and Alex" versus "Sam and Mike" thing going on, no form of the band was ever going to get together. Wolfgang made it easier for Ed to pick up a guitar and not have to bring a fresh person in (remember the Gary nightmare?).

I like the new songs and love that the band is back together. Do I expect Dave jumping from the drum riser in chaps while Eddie plays one of his old Plexis? No. It is what it is and lets me hang on to my youth for awhile. It is either this or listen to Dragonforce and play World of Warcraft while drinking a goblet of Tang with my friends....
