I saw VH last year and was far from impressed and did not feel I got my money's worth. I have seen Van Halen three times with Anthony. His bass lines are much more precise and space with the drummer much better. Tighter and more articulate. Wolfie's lines were blurry and lacked definition live. He also had the stage presence of a stick. Yeah he did a good job for a kid. No comparison. I love Eddie but the new Van Halen sucks. I respect them for riding it out to make money and have some fun but its time to hang it up. That show last year  Rush and U2 destroyed them. Got my money's worth there and I am not even a big U2 fan. And David should come out of the closet. We all know he's gay. :gay:
Im laughing at this   are you serious??
Not my quotes.
"I'm surprised to see no one on this board talking about it but the tabloids
are full of articles about David Lee Roth's homosexuality. He is currently
married to his personal male chef, they were married in a civil union last
year.
Sorry guys, but his macho "Player" act was all created to cover up his
homosexuality. You never see him with females.I've even heard stories about how at recent concerts he is telling male audience members what beautiful hair they have. The guy is
flamingly gay and I didn't want to believe it either because I was always a
Roth fan when I was a kid but I've accepted it now....he's GAY."

The fact that there is even a Michael vs. Wolfgang debate is ridiculous. EVH and AVH hold down the rhythm in that band. And according to them, neither has ever had any bass in their monitors. The bass was there to fill things out and to have something for ed to solo over   Nobody listens to Van Halen because of the awesome bass playing...

Especially when most likely half of what we've all heard and thought was Michael Anthony was actually EVH playing the recorded bass parts. If you think he waited for Mike to come record his bass parts when Ed had been up working at 5150 at 3am you're nuts. There was and unpublished interview from the mid 80s where Ed was asked point blank if he recorded the bass parts, and his response was "why did you have to ask me that?!" I miss Anthony too, but not much for his playing, more for his presence and making the reunion complete. Musically, I don't think he contributed much. Great backing voice, but half the backing vocals was Ed anyway (basic 2 part harmony). Wolfie is doing a fine job of hitting the high parts in my opinion.

Hopefully, a couple years from now, we'll get a VH tour/recording with Roth, Hagar and Anthony all on board.

What exactly is everyone hearing from Wolfgang? I seriously don't hear anything. I mean, if his last name wasn't Van Halen, would you still give a shit? What exactly has he done except pop out of Val? I mean, he can play bass and guitar like a bazillion other people, but what has he done that is special? I don't hear shit in any of these tracks that makes even EVH or DLR sound good, let alone WOLFGANG. I just don't get WTF you people are hearing. Is he playing his parts with his family jewels? Now that would be impressive.
Uhmmm?? Its called bass guitar... and you can finally hear it now ;)

IDK, lots of guys (and gals) play bass guitar a tad better...Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten, Bootsy Collens, Rhonda Smith, Doug Pinnik, Tal W. and countless others that I can't even remember. All of them amazing, tone, phrasing, timing and technique. Wolfie has nothing on them. Just because you can hear it now, is not attributable to Wolfie. That was EVH. It was because of him and his ego that MA was turned down. Of course he turns his son up. I mean, for all we know EVH played the bass himself on the album. He claimed shit like that about MA when it was convenient for him in the past.

Think about it like this, he's in his first band ,playing with world famous professional musicians, and he's holding his own. I don't know if a kid his age and under those circumstances could do the same without choking. There could be someone out there that could possibly do the same , but we are talking about about Wolfie here.If you can't see at least that than i don't know what to tell ya.  . To each his own.

He isn't playing with world famous prof. musicians (well he is, ) he is playing with his dad, his uncle and his strange uncle dave. Totally different. This is what he grew up around. He is used to it. It would be different for us, but it is the usual S.O.S.D.D. for him. That's the thing. He isn't holding his own. He is adequate, nothing special. He is there only because of who he is, not what he did. He didn't audition. Don't get me wrong, I have anything against Wolfgang. I am just asking what you guys are fawning over? If VH held auditions for that spot and he wasn't related, do you think he would have gotten the gig?

I've not seen anyone fawning over him. Just making the observation his playing is as adequate for VH as it ever was.

Technical ability isn't everything, just look at Green Day. The question is whether he fits the band and if he is making a valuable contribution. IMHO I have to say yes. From what i saw from the cafe Wah clips and hearing from this album I think he is maturing as a band member. He seems much more confident, far from the awkwardness we saw on the last tour (to be expected, young kid thrown in there) I am really starting to be stoked about this album after a initial "Tattoo" let down.

On another note. So what if Roth is homosexual?

You should go back and read some of the quotes about him in some of these threads then. Especially how he has moved people and how great his playing is and such. That is specifically what I am talking about. Its like they are making a bigger deal that he is in the band, then they should. If MA bass was insignificant, the Wolfie's is no better.

Guess I just hadn't seen those quotes.

I agree, Wolfie is no more or less significant than MA, that I've heard thus far. I wouldn't mind seeing MA in the line up, but I don't find I'm missing him being there and Wolfie seems perfectly adequate. I fact, I really don't care who's in the band. All I've ever listened to VH for was Eddie. Everyone else are and have been just contributors.

On another note, it's nice to hear some bass.

Wow, really?? I think you're going to need to back this up (no pun intended :D ) if you're going to put it out there. I've been following VH since '81 and this is the first I have heard of him being gay. That said, who gives a shit if he is?? I don't think listening to VH w/DLR is going to turn you queer, if that's your concern

I thought u guys were joking when u said that" maybe they can hope to be as good as chickenfoot". Are u joking?? Other then for guitar geek types chickenfoot is basically unlistenable. It's like the worst of Sammy era vh but without Edie and alex. All accomplished musicians but it still sucks. I personally didn't think that the new vh stuff was that bad, not great either though but at least some potential as a band. I thought wolfies playing in the ny clips was great an much better then before. Being what antisocial nutcases the brothers are it makes Sence to have it a family thing. How can we forget such great creative bass lines such as m Anthony's in runnin with the devil!!

I'm a guitar geek kind of guy and I still find it unlistenable. I'm a huge fan of Joe and even Sammy's solo work but I haven't heard anything from Chickenfoot that I would want listen to again.

Wow, surprised at the Mike hate. The bros VH fucked that guy in a way that only be described as soulless.

Also, when did you need to play a bunch of notes or a ton of chops to be the bassist in VH? Fuck, that shit, MA played what was needed. Could give a shit less if it was because he couldn't play better or not.

Hmm.. I've read interviews from both sides of the story, and in a nutshell MA was occupied with Sammy and Chickenfoot and was not able (willing?) to do the VH reunion tour, leading to Wolfgang replacing him. That's basically the story from MA and VH .. slightly different telling of course, depending on which side it comes from but the meat is the same. There was no "soulless fucking" though.

I've read the Sammy biography recently. Mikey has written the first chapter. From my understanding Mike didn't see anything wrong about going on stage with Sammy Hagar during Hagar's tour with David Lee Roth. Hagar was out of VH (in bad standing) at the time, and Mike was told not to do this by Eddie. Mikey decided to do it anyway. When he did, this was seen as an act of unloyalty by Eddie, and lay the grounds for Mikey first not being invited to the VH reunion tour, and then later replaced by Wolfgang.

Are you the third VH brother?

Not quite. He was ostracized way before Chickenfoot ever happened so your story fails from the start. Also, they removed his face from album covers on their website and replaced them with Wolfgang. Soulless as all fuck. Only fixed it when fans went apeshit and rightly so.

It's been long rumored that Roth was gay, but this is the first I've ever heard about his chef???

The thing that makes me have a hard time believing it is this. . .when Roth and VH split in 1985, they HATED each other, so why wouldn't have Eddie made it front page news?

Anyway, who cares? I still think Roth and VH are great! DLR strikes me as somebody I'd love to have a drink & cigar with and listen to his stories from back in the day.
