Very cool! I personally would prefer a slightly more off axis mic position sound, but very nice..

Yeah,

Getting a great guitar tone is harder than it seems.

I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

Craig

guitar tone seems fine to me. i would only upgrade if you are looking to make multi tracked professional sounding full mixes. For these videos, the mbox 3 is perfect.

no it sounds very good, just a bit brighter then I like myself, I would move at least the 57 more off axis towards the cone, might get more body and less bright top end. But that is just me..

I wonder if a better audio interface might
make an improvement.

I am using the Mbox 3.

Not the greatest Mic preamps or
conversion.

I'll have to give the mic placement a try
in my next video.

Nah I don't think an interface would make all that difference with the same placement. It sounds good, don't get me wrong, but I just said I prefer a slightly darker, more ff axis sound and less treble. but that is just me. I don't follow Eddie so you may have nailed his sound, I am not sure. great sound though

+1

I think the tone sounds good. The mic preamp won't make a huge difference in your tone. All of my clips are recorded with a super cheap M-Audio Mobile Pre USB (about $120 brand new). I think mic placement will tame the top just a hair. You may not hear it in the room but mic placement will help a ton with any recording (not necessarily talking about your vid). I always paly around with positioning with my mics and my headphones on until I find the mic tone that nest represents what I hear in the room. Time well invested. Keep the clips coming.

Interesting how much the tone differs.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

i'd use a little less gain.. When you shove a mic up in the grill you perceive more distortion

thanks for the clip! making me want one of these 50Watters everytime I see a link on one on this forum

What a difference a little movement makes.
Thanks for posting this.

I liked the punch of #2 the best (1/2" off the grill cloth straight at the edge of the of the dust cap).

Yeah, I prefer that one out of the 3. I do like #1 too. #3 was just to see how drastic the sound would be. I recorded a few clips in the past with the mic 3"s off the grill cloth that sounded good too. Lots of options and tones. I do want to find one or two sweet spots and mark them to be consistent though.

I will shoot a clip today with that position.

Maybe 1/2 inch and 1 inch and see how it sounds.

Also, and I truly mean no offense...But watching you pick is like watching a weak hitting drummer. It looks like you are afraid to actually hit the strings!

Lay into it and it will reward you with better feel and tones (both the guitar and amp, IMO).

and yeah, I'd back the mics off the grill cloth a little.
