I am running a studio now with one of these boards Tascam dm4800
I am a bit of a newbie to pro audio gear..
and some of this gear is for sale, so I am forced to learn in a hurry
how its hooked up now and how to replace parts of it and reconfigure it.

rig
Tascam DM-4800
1 digital 192 IO
and one 192 IO

Mac pro 2 , protools HD 7.4x
accel and core card PCI E
ADAM S2A pair and SUB 10

I have a couple questions as I am reconfiguring a protools system
for the first time...

What is the optimal light pipe " connection for the board to be connected to a "digital" 192 IO?

Right now things are wired in such a way that we are running at 48k?

I am trying to figure out why they did that, and if they are
possibly using some of the converters in the board.
And Who is setting the speed limit?
It seems silly to me to have the good gear and run it
all at 48k.
( I have a nice wordclock as well advertising this fact in
large RED LED,) doh!

I dont know it bothers me to have it hooked up this way..

I want to sell the Tascam and get something smaller
so I am looking into maybe 16 channel or 24 ch options.
any ideas? and do I have to have a digital mixer? (ugh)
I really want to start with a break out box for the 192 IO (not the digital one)
and build from there, I want to keep the system HD but possibly
remove the digital 192 and the tascam.

HELP!

ok sorry to ramble..

Steve
